Yeah, it's really fucking obnoxious shitty sunshine pop. It's excruciating as hell. I can't stand it. They improved greatly in the years following Piper. Even Syd's song on A Saucerful of Secrets is way better, though that's still not as good as his songs that were left off that album (Vegetable Man and Scream Thy Last Scream) which I guess the rest of Pink Floyd thought were too dark to put on there or something, because Pink Floyd have always been plebs when it comes to their own music.

Okay, I like the opening tracks on each side. Interstellar Overdrive is undeniably amazing. Astronomy Domine was greatly improved on the live version on Ummagumma. Everything else sounds like the soundtrack to the Telletubbies, which I get that sounding whimsical is a huge aspect of psychedelia, but on Piper it's mostly just done in a way that's really grating and annoying. I'm just glad you didn't put Pow R. Toc H. on the same level as Interstellar Overdrive; I fucking hate that song.

A lot of times they are sunshine pop, but the songs of theirs that I like I consider to be more in the realm of psychedelia. My favorite Beatles song is probably It's All Too Much, which even if it is sunshine pop, at least it doesn't sound like an obnoxious nursery rhyme sung by Jeff Mangum's autistic baby brother.
