This capitalist consumerism bullshit is why music fans are largely so insincere about this hobby. I'm grateful somebody's supporting musicians but I wish I didn't have to interact with the fedorafags here on /mu/. Vinyl is a relic of the past that's been fetishized for its retro appeal. Exactly the same as wearing men's fashion from the '50s AKA a fedora. That's what's so ironic about /mu/, how people are picking out "cool" records, buying them, showing them off online and yet are afraid of being called a fedora for their tastes when their behavior is in fact no different whatsoever from fedora wearers.

Hardly anyone truly has a passion for music. Mostly it's nothing more than people who like the image and culture of music, enjoying the idea of themselves being musically inclined and therefore cultured. That's the appeal of vinyl with its big artwork and its physical presence on the bookshelf. Vinyl is a decoration to fill a void in your personality.

Bit of a blurry iphone pic but you get the idea.

Newest things I've gotten are Giles Corey, that Toe record that I have yet to get to, some Caddywhompus test pressings and a whole bunch of Alexisonfire tapes.

Also just saw Tim Hecker - Virgins on coke bottle clear /300 on Discogs for twenty fucking dollars and snapped it up with a quickness.

>>
>>61475087
how much better would crosleys be if they simply added a counterweight?
i'm curious what people have to say about this
>>
>>61475227

Not really, ceramic cartridges need a fuckload of tracking force for proper playback.

Some old P-mount turntables don't have counterweight as well, but since they're moving magnets the carts don't require scrapping on the record, so they're comparably light on records.

I don't get picture discs because they suck but the one of Earth's Hex is fantastic
>>
>>61475292

*scraping

whatever.
>>
>>61475227
Not much better. You'd still have some overhang since the platter is 10" in diameter. You would still have these terrible ceramic cardridges. Not to mention Crosleys are known for having unsteady speeds too.
The lack of counterweight is not the problem with Crosleys, it's just part of the many things that make them shit.

Posted this is the last thread but didn't get much response. I bought this a few weeks ago after I saw them at a show but when I opened it the CD side was a completely different band called Gang Starr. Anybody ever hear of cases of getting mismatched records before? Any idea what I could do to get the actual CD side?
>>
>>61475227

Crosley did this recently. Pic related is a refurbished Pro-Ject Debut III with double the price, and the other is a belt-drive clone of SL-1200.

You're not alone, I ordered this Enter Shikari record (A Flash Flood of Colour) when it came out about 3 years ago and it was the right cover, sleeve, and trans blue color, but the label and pressing were for some really mediocre band called Walls. Not sure if this specific mis-pressing was widespread though
>>
>>61472804
i agree. i place my vinylss and vinyls player so it's the first thing people see when they come into my apartment. if they miss it when they walk in, i make sure i point it out to them. i just loving seeing every bodies face as they go thru my obscurely and eclectically curated vinyls. i even have a instagram and tumblr with pictures of my most "out there" vinyls selection that i average 17 likes per post. ive met many indie girls too because of my vinyls selection
