how many times do you listen to an album before you rate it?
i don't rate albums or even critique, just like what i like
rating albums is so fucking stupid who cares just listen to it and rate it in your brain you stupid rym memers
until ive formed what feels like a fairly solid opinion on it, can be 1 listen if its a genre i listen to a lot, probably more listens if its a jazz album or a classical recording

I don't really rate stuff but it takes me like 5 listens to fully retain it
I use MediaMonkey, which has a 5-star system, with half-stars being the smallest increment.
I rate a few of the tracks during my first listen, especially the ones that stand out for me, but I'll always miss a few because I'm distracted by whatever else I'm doing.
During my second and third listens, at least two track ratings will be tweaked by half a star, and the ones I missed the first time will be rated. Most 2-star tracks get deleted.
From then on, when building a playlist, a glance at my ratings for an album will tell me whether it's worth playing in full, or if I should just play one of my favourites and move on to another artist.
What am I a critic? I'm still exploring music. I am unfamiliar with contexts and I do not completely understand really complex works. To rank things would be pretentious.
I don't rate music because my opinion, taste and mood changes all the time, and it's impossible to be completely objective
I've only rated a few albums, and they were all ones I had listened to several times before. I wouldn't rate an album based on the first impression.
Rating your albums is the most autistic thing you can do.
