This is stretching it, but The Sea and Cake's 'Nassau' has some strong jazz influences that caught on a little earlier than Tortoise. If you like Tortoise, I recommend you check the band out, they came from the same Chicago scene. Unlike Tortoise, they turned quite quickly into an indie pop band come the 00's though.
