What is everyone's thoughts on Blackstar? Initial impression is that it was much better than I expected from a 67 year old Bowie. Need to listen again once higher quality versions are available.
best bowie album

He's doing something new and exciting for the first time since Outside. Not only that, but this is his most focused and unique effort since Low. Bowie has released excellent tracks on almost every record since Ashes to Ashes but I think this is his first album since to match or even top that album since its release. In fact I'll put Blackstar above several of his 70's efforts too such as Diamond Dogs and Man Who Sold the World. As a singlular expression, Blackstar ranks as one of Bowie's best. Easily top 10 Bowie.

IMO, Blackstar (stylised as ) is the upcoming twenty-fifth studio album by David Bowie. It is scheduled to be released on 8 January 2016, the date of Bowie's 69th birthday,[3][4][5] and will feature seven songs.[6][7] The title track was released as a single on 20 November 2015[8] and was used as the opening music for the television series The Last Panthers.[9] "Lazarus" was released on 17 December 2015 as a digital download and received its world premiere on BBC Radio 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq the same day.[10]
That's just my opinion tho, maybe someone else thinks differently
>>61433482
Agreed, except I still prefer most of his 70s output

If it weren't for those creases under his nose, he could pass for about 45-50.
After the 80s, every single album that came out people said is his best effort since scary monsters. This is definitely his best since then. It's more focused than a lot of his works since scary monsters and has matured a lot. It usually takes bowie a while to build up to a "great" album. That was the way for ziggy and low. Here's my ranking of his albums.
S - Low, Ziggy Stardust
A - Station to Station
A - Hunky Dory, Heroes, Scary Monsters
A- - Aladdin Sane, Young Americans, Lodger, Blackstar
B+ - The Man Who Sold the World
B - Diamond Dogs, The Next Day, Heathen
B- - Let's Dance, Outside
>>61436354
These are actually pretty accurate. Waiting for a full quality leak of Blackstar before I listen though.
Is there one out there at all?
>>61435334
That's the same rip as before.
I notice people often don't put Buddha of Surburbia in Bowie rankings, which is a shame, it's really good, there's a few Buddha-ish sounds on Blackstar actually.
>>61436466
I love Sex and the Church.
>>61432966
Is the one on TPB good enough? Or should I wait for my first listen to be an orgasmic experience and listen to it on the 8th?
>>61432966
Who is this 67 year old Bowie? David's hidden brother?
>>61436740
It's not terrible but it will sound a lot better when it's out. Listening to the already released versions of Blackstar and Lazarus the dip in quality is quite noticeable.
>>61436759
>David's hidden brother?

Switch Lodger and Let's Dance.
Move Heathen to the A- bracket, and you're good.
>>61436466
Yes, the ambient side is awesome.
It's too bad his '93 album wasn't BTWN's pop songs, and Buddha's ambient tracks as an album.
>>61436466
THIS. I think its easily his best 90s album, dead against it and strangers when we meet are amazing vocal tracks and all the ambient tracks are great.
>Objectively correct ranking
1. Ziggy Stardust
2. Hunky Dory
3. Diamond Dogs
4. Heroes
5. Station to Statiom
6. Low
7. The Man Who Sold The World

>>61439554
I love both tracks, I like the Outside version of Strangers more though, probably my favourite Bowie song along with Ashes to Ashes. Untitled No. 1 is also great.

Am wondering too. If either, it's not by much because the track lengths are really close to the real lengths.
