I used to despise memerap but then I realized rap "music" is a testament to the Bell curve. 50% of the population is of below average intelligence. That's about 3.5 billion people. And those people have the inborn desire to listen to music.
http://www.psmag.com/books-and-culture/classical-music-linked-to-high-intelligence-27959

I'm not angry about the existence of rap music anymore. In fact it saddens me so much that I donated 10% of my income to a charity that builds school in developing countries.

Short answer: No.

I'm a music conservatory graduate. I spent years analyzing music for grades, so when I come across something that's garbage, I know. Rap music has the melodic complexity of a train horn (actually less; train horns often are tuned to a tritone, which seem to be absent in Rap) and the lyrical complexity barely goes beyond a 3rd grade vocabulary. Not only is this music intended for ignorant audiences, it's intended to provoke ignorant young people into committing crimes, in order to fill the for-profit prisons in the US.
>>
>>61274406
Fellow conservatory graduate here. You took the words right out of my mouth.
Hip-Hop is the ugliest nuisance ever to be called music. Perhaps I could endure it while on cocaine, but since it's for people with rather sick notions of what's enjoyable, even then I would still enjoy it less than almost anything else there is to listen to. And since unprecedented freedom of choice reveals that punishment's gluttons are the largest demographic, I can only take it as catastrophically bad news about the human condition generally.
>>
>>61274436
>>61274406
There we go, further proof that studying music can destroy the way you think of it

There is no situation in which enjoying fewer things is "good." You are not elite or special. You have ruined yourselves and reduced music to a math you calculate and you have narrowed your tastes because of it.

Good taste means that you can appreciate music regardless of arbitrary factors like complexity. It is always better to enjoy more things.

I don't even enjoy hip hop, but you guys are fucking assholes
>>
>>61274406
you're the type of person who says Beethoven sucks because he focuses on emotion besides complexity aren't you?
>>
Rap music:
-degrades the english language
-Promotes tagging and vandalism
-degrades women
-Implies postivity to primitive force (look at any metal cd, and youll see an imaginative cover with interesting artwork, look at a hip hop Cd, and youll see a pissed off nigra wanting to fight)
-Shifts values to "bling" and expensive shoes which leads to theft
-Promotes Rastafrian culture, which tries to legalize weed

Rap can be made by ANYBODY, a preset drum machine is all you need to make primitve music and get signed to a record label. If youve been shot, thats credible and prefered to hype your image, just like growing up on the "street"
The lyrics are simple, the sentences dont need to be related, just whatever can ryhme is fine. They dont even have to make sense, just as long as it sticks to an even flow. And sometimes, rappers will get lazy and mispronounce words to rhyme.
Now some of you guys are gonna say "omg racist", but more thn half of all nigra music is sold to whites. No other genre of music promotes more negative values than hip hop, and as it spreads toward different regions, it infects the native population like a fungus.

There is NO talent in rap, so next time, whe your downloading music, get yourself a king crimson, dark tranquility, symphony x or non-hip hop album. Your brain will thank you for not degenerating it into a pile of primtive processing jello

>>
>>61274406
My friend is studying music theory at Oxford, and while studying medieval classical they are also studying hip hop. In depth into sampling and cultural narratives and shit that you wouldn't learn just studying classical or jazz. They're spending two terms on it because it's not easy music.
>>
>>61274555
Beethoven is at least tolerable when you're inebriated on a bottle of Quinta de Chocapalha Tinto amidst the breeze of a mild summer's night. I, personally, however, rarely stoop to that level and every time it happens I have to flagellate myself spiritually.
>>
the problem with rap is that people aren't using it to convey anything anymore. Pop-rap is just the same shit about how cool it is to be a gangster and have a lot of girlfriends. Even on albums I like, there's mentions of "your girl" and how big the guy's dick is.

The simplicity and rawness of rap is what I like. It can be like punk.

>>61274436
>went to music school and never did coke
Lol fucking nerd. Cocaine is not a "whoaa the music maaaannn " Drug
Also you're not cool and this puffed up sense of "intelligence" in writing off an entire genre does not make you cool. I also think hip hop is shit for the most part but to claim it's irredeemable and not even music (because of course you are the one who gets to define that, daddy paid for a bachelor's degree after all) is hilariously pretentious
>>
>>61274612
Cocaine being a numbing agent for both the mind and the body is what makes it suitable to endure rap music.

But it hightens your mental activity because its a fucking stimulant you retard. Maybe you should have actually made some friends and gone to some parties at music school. Don't pretend you know what it's like to be on coke in your subsequent posts, you've madeit abundantly clear you've never done it already
>>
>>61274647
It's a central nervous system and dopamine stimulant but precisely this method of action diminishes your cognitive faculties. It just makes you _think_ you're smarter.
Physically it's a numbing agent. That's why it was originally developed as a short-term painkiller for dentists.
>>
>>61274631
and both genres are total trash
>>
>>61274660

>>
>>61274672

>my fancy science words mean I know more about how the drug effects me than someone who's actually used the drug
You realize perception is reality and that is never more true than when you're on hard drugs. If it causes you to _think_ you're smarter (it doesn't, just gets your mind racing) than you will genuinely feel that way until the drug wears off regardless of the truth of that fact,
You know what kid, do a bunch of coke and listen to rap I'm sure you'll love it. And by the way, increased mental activity is not the same thing as being smarter or even thinking you're smarter it's just the exact opposite of having your mind numbed. You are retarded enough to think that the physical effects of a drug are automatically the same as the mental effects. I do not think any cocaine user woukd

HIP HOP

1. Deepest lyrical content
2. Most diverse instrumentals, samples from all other genres
3. Dankest beats
4. Bangers
5. Timeless
6. Ascends the listener to a higher plane
7. Literally the highest art form there is
8. Keeps the listener informed about current social and political events, luxury car brands, narcotics and how much money the rap man has.
"If people are informed they will do the right thing. It's when they are not informed that they become hostages to prejudice."
9. The best genre all around
10. Colorful
11. Always evolving
12. Cool, calm and collected
13. Real
14. Tells stories that the listener can relate to in his personal life
15. The frontier of modern philosophy
16. Dank beats
>>
>>61275709

Type V music such as Spectralism and Athematism has the most complex vocabulary. The difference is that they speak the language of music. It takes some practice to grasp it. Rap is considered Type 0 for a reason. And it's popular with the masses for a reason.
