When you're depressed and disasocciated, nothing really compares to the first few Red House Painters albums. I don't remember anything else being so perfect. You almost have to be crushingly depressed to appreciate that music.
I feel like this album personified depression with the gloominess and grey cover, while Pornography personified suicide with its crimson red cover and savage sound.

no hes right. depression isnt just a mood you alliviate by putting on some nice music. its a relentless, exhausting (and for some people, lifelong) illness that sucks the life out of you. if you claim your depression was 'cured' by something so stupid like a band or something similar you WERE not depressed.
I don't know if you're necessarily trying to cure the chronic depression, but when I'm depressed, sometimes I wanna listen to something depressing just to fit how I'm feeling, and that in itself feels incredibly vaguely good for some reason...? I'm having a slightly hard time time expressing what I mean.
Anyway, He Has Left Us Alone... By ASMZ is my go-to depressing album. At least with some of the opening tracks.

depression doesn't mean you don't have peaks of happiness or enjoyment. I have good days every once in a while. Anhedonia stemming from depression has a lot more to do with emotional reactions to what other people say or the want to do nothing.
