Pretty hate machine, but pretty much any older NIN albums would do. Those are my go-to albums when I start getting in a funk, anyways.
>>
Now that I think of it, it depends on what kind of depressive you are.
>>
>>61265623
I'm clinically depressed,
tbe it really does not matter all that much, I want something mellow that does not vary that much,
Also the longer the better because I hate having to pick out what I want to do next

Smog is possibly the best. He's never mopey, but it's always very dark. Despite that, there's always a sort of defiant smirk behind all the despair. Try wild love and the doctor came at dawn.

When you're depressed and disasocciated, nothing really compares to the first few Red House Painters albums. I don't remember anything else being so perfect. You almost have to be crushingly depressed to appreciate that music.

I feel like this album personified depression with the gloominess and grey cover, while Pornography personified suicide with its crimson red cover and savage sound.

try Jandek, I think he's perfect for that state of mind. RHP even quotes his song Michael

i think this is one of the best the cure albums imo

If you were really depressed, music would just sound like flat and boring noise. So, if you can enjoy music, congrats - you are probably just faking it because the media makes depression look cool.

Grow a spine and stop whining. You are a white male living in a first world country who has never seen a traumatic event in his life. You have literally nothing to be sad about.

Do you honestly not believe that people can "get over" depression?
And if you do believe that is possible, why don't you think music can help with that?
>>
>>61265720
Amazing albums.
>>
>>61269649
Because depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain that wouldn't be restored by listening to Loveless, or any album, however great they are.

Annoying for people to say their depression was cured by a goddamn album

Depression is caused by emotions, and music can help transform peoples emotional state.
>>
>>61269695
Then fine then I was really sad and Loveless helped me process my sadness and get over it
>>
>>61269726
Yeah I can understand that, I listened to a lot of Beatles when I was really sad and it was comforting
>>
>>61269649
no hes right. depression isnt just a mood you alliviate by putting on some nice music. its a relentless, exhausting (and for some people, lifelong) illness that sucks the life out of you. if you claim your depression was 'cured' by something so stupid like a band or something similar you WERE not depressed.

I don't know if you're necessarily trying to cure the chronic depression, but when I'm depressed, sometimes I wanna listen to something depressing just to fit how I'm feeling, and that in itself feels incredibly vaguely good for some reason...? I'm having a slightly hard time time expressing what I mean.

Anyway, He Has Left Us Alone... By ASMZ is my go-to depressing album. At least with some of the opening tracks.

While it's true that anhedonia isn't 100% necessary for a depression diagnostic, it is one of its major signs, and when it hits you, you actually hate engaging in stuff that you used to love, because you now can't get anything out of that.

Any Smiths album is always perfect for these times.

Others of my go-tos include of Montreal and Radiohead albums (mainly OKC and The Bends). I recently listened to Melanie Martinez's Cry Baby and really liked how dark it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUZaGjctOhM

been dealing with this shit for a while now, but one of my most recent intense bouts it was about 4:30 in the morning, no sleep in a few days, miserable suicidal, the whole sha-bang. Decided to put on the headphones and stare at my ceiling and just acept the darkness and put on Xiu Xiu - a Promise.

very cleansing and incredible, horrible nightmare experience. really captures some of the more manic, shame anger and self hatred of depression.

sending my love tho anon, been on welbutrin for a while now and it actually fucking works <3

depression, at its simplest, is caused by a lack of the hormone serotinin. the absence of this hormone can LEAD to emotions that form Depression's symptoms, but the emotions themselves aren't the cause

Ben Howard - Every Kingdom

depression makes all music suck. this is true.
>>
>>61273000
It doesn't make music suck to me, but it drains my patience for it.

I can't listen to music that I normally enjoy because it all kind of becomes a blank slate of sounds coming at me and becomes unprocessable.

depression doesn't mean you don't have peaks of happiness or enjoyment. I have good days every once in a while. Anhedonia stemming from depression has a lot more to do with emotional reactions to what other people say or the want to do nothing.

The person in the richest family in the world can have depression. It's partly a problem with chemical reactions in the brain
