Who was the first musician that you got into without influence from your parents?
Do you still listen to them? Did they help shape your future tastes? Pic related.

>implying that my parents ever talked to me about music
thanks for the reminder OP
maybe rush or linkin park or eminem
idk
i made friends with rockists and became a rockist
u happy op
also i don't listen to any of them anymore
i doubt anyone had good taste back then
a more interesting thread would be
Which musician/band was the first that you discovered on your own?
but even that's a shitty question
also your pic related is shit op
die fucking koreaboo
die fucking weeb*
Does it count as influence if it's an artist I got into by tracing the steps of an artist they turned me onto?

mine was hikki too ;w;
>like Queen
>listen to the usual bunch of classic rock
>listen to pink floyd's early albums
>get into psychedelic rock
>get into the more experimental side of psychedelic rock
>listen to Trout Mask Replica
>get into lots of kinds of experimental rock
>listen to Ornette Coleman's Free Jazz
>get into noisy free jazz
>get back to experimental rock for a while
>get into the essensial Avant-Garde Classical
>come back to free jazz, it no longer has to be noisy
>listen to some Pre-Free Jazz Jazz
>go back to Free Jazz and dig deeper into it
And that's where I am now.
That was a 2 year long music trip.
Actually a cool thread I like these.
Mine was soundgarden. Pretty good as a gateway to grunge, then into punk, hardcore, shoegaze, post-punk, and emo. Those genres are where I'm at today and I'm happy about that.
Overall a good band to lead to more avant-garde stuff and I still listen to them once in a while.

>>get into psychedelic rock
>>get into the more experimental side of psychedelic rock
>>listen to Trout Mask Replica
>>get into lots of kinds of experimental rock
>>listen to Pharoah Sander's Tauhid
>>get into smooth spiritual jazz and some of the noisy shit
>>become a degenerate, smoke weed and listen to hip hop
>>come to /mu/
>>quit doing drugs and listening to hip hop
>>now we poptimism and harsh noise coffee
I would say Pharoah Sanders to answer OP
