Pretty maximal if you ask me.

Their only maximal is S&M...and that sucked imo.
>>

In regards to the music in lieu of the concept of the album, I agree. The music itself is pretty simple, though the studio effects are pretty maximalist, especially on Amused to Death.

He was a total megalomaniac back in the day, but he seems to have chilled out these days though.

No, with my ears. I liked how it sounded. That's pretty much it.
>>
Is this maximalist?
>>
>>
>>61220701
absolutely not, Trent said he specifically avoided making it too bold, heavy or complex.
>>
>>61220757
Is it subtlely maximalist though? It is sonically complex, even a bit chaotic
>>
>>61220796
subtly maximalist seems like a bit of an oxymoron no?

If you compare it to C&L...yes.
>>
>>61220879
it is objectively maximalist though, from the orchestral instrumentation to the lyrical scope to the duration

First song just throws a bunch of shit at you, even an hip-hop sample, and after that it just keeps mixing a bunch of shit, and it's still a fantastic album

It's essentially the black metal answer to Mr. Bungle, with a lot of non-preachy social commentary on France
