What, you've never asked for specific recommendations in a share thread? Of course you won't often find stuff you like if you don't actively ask for recs. Participate actively in them and you get some pristine stuff.
As to rym, I don't care about country and I don't care about year, and specific genres will only show the most popular, which is heavily biased from the rym community. I'm generally very anti-review, so rym just doesn't work for me.

Ambient techno, downtempo, ambient dub, you know, anything called 'ambient' that annoying people would say it's not ambient
You know, imagine a glass vase breaking in space and the pieces floating around... the pieces have sharp points that touch the surface of other poarts of the glass
Ambient drone and more minimal stuff sound more round and covered on velvet, which is not bad but you have to be careful not to caught yourself listening to lazy stuff like Justin Beiber songs slowed down 500%
