not because i don't love mine, i just want more cool shit
maybe i'll get a les paul for home use and use my SG for gigs and shit
Holiday spirit day 2. Learned the Merry Christmas carrol. What are some essential songs for holidays?
''base'' general
Does anyone have any experience with Guyatone Basses or Guitars? Just bought an SG-72 online, almost identical to pic. Are these any good? Didnt pay tooo much but i Just fell in love with it

Nice blog.
>>61209631
this is me right now too. I only just got a cheap used teisco and now I want a semi acoustic, 12 string or vox phantom.
Also need to get a new amp since my uncle is taking his one back.
Thinking about getting a cheap Vox Pathfinder instead of buying a £200-300 amp and saving up for a good valve.
>>61209859

Anyone have any thoughts on JJ Tubes?
I'm considering replacing my AC30cc2 stock tubes for them but I can't seem to find enough opinions online though the few I had found say it's a real improvement from stock.
>>61209719
That thing looks awesome man, hope it turns out to be a nice buy.
>>61209859
Please don't shitpost. You're probably the same guy that told anon to kill himself.
>>61209967
I say go for it.
>>61209986
Thanks man- will probably post in here how it goes. Hardly anything about them anywhere on the net.
>>61209967
The only el84s I've had that are real dogs are Russian old stock 6bq5s. Granted they're the cheapest thing you can possibly buy, but they deliver pretty rugged results. JJ is probably the most respectable of the big three makers.
>>61210031
I'll shitpost all I want familia
>You're probably the same guy that told anon to kill himself
nah, but that happens a lot here, you shouldn't take it to heart, welcome to 4chan.
>>61209967
Also, I wouldn't look to tubes (especially power) for tonal improvements. A speaker upgrade would be more relevant, or amplifier mods to taste.
>>61210208
It barely ever happens in these generals though. If you really need to get your shitposting fix I suggest you go to Reddit or a different thread. Nobody wants to deal with your shit here.

So rich can brag
So I'm looking for a new set up for my bass. I'm upgrading from an old Crate. It wasn't very good and couldn't get that loud. Definitely not enough for gigging and I'd like to be gigging soon.
The main problem is Im not in the situation to have big cabs and move them around. Is "you can't gig with a combo" a meme or is it for real?
My band set up has no guitarist but the drummer is pretty damn loud.
So can I get away with a 210 or a 115 or do I need something bigger and if I have to get something bigger is a 212 big enough?
>>61210031
>>61210201
>>61210258
Cool, thanks guys.
I would go straight for the Alnico Blue speakers but I'm just looking for a little (inexpensive) mod to freshen things up.
>>61210437
A 115 will do the job. If you have the wattage then you're going to be able to push under everyone.

I want am acoustic guitar that I'll be proud to own the rest of my life
I'm a poorfag and intermediate guitar player whose been playing acoustic guitar for around 1 1/2 years. Now I want to get an electric guitar and someone in my area offers an Ibanez GRG170 DX + Yamaha THR5 for 200€, sounds like a decent deal to me.
Should I get both or wait for another used guitar to pop up?
I'm not to keen on the look of the Ibanez, but it seems like a pretty versatile instrument, which is basically what I'm looking for.
>>61210790
Buy a 12 string. They are pretty cool
>>61210300
is there anything remotely as blooz lawyer as a super wood grainy suhr super strat (tamed down model with wilkinson instead of floydrose) with gold hardware?
whats it going into?

What are some good christmasy songs to learn on the bass?

If you waved enough shekels at them, they'd put a wood finish on anything like this
>>61211091
if i had a $2500+ gibson lp i wouldn't let it leave my house
I'm looking to build my own SG next year. What pickups do you recommend? I've been looking at Bareknuckle pickups, but I want to keep my options open. I don't want it to sound like a shitty dj0nt guitar either.

Any opinions on Carvin guitars? I have a Luther told me there were shit, mainly because of the cheap electronics it has.

that being said, i have no idea about them
>>61211443

I'm 21 years old. Is it too late to get into guitar? My buddy says bass would be better when getting into an instrument so late.
I haven't touched an instrument since I graduated middle school.
>>61211377
Which set are you using?
>>61211520
You know, as someone who plays electric guitar, I'm ashamed to say I have no idea what "electronics", other than the pickups mean in this context.
>>61210971
I don't have any problems with current production tubes (JJ, New Sensor, Shuguang). Call them what you want mesa, ehx, groove tubes, tube doc, etc. They're one of the top three.
I think these are old rusky Reflector tubes. They look burned in, last poorly, and sound the same. But they're about $15 for 6. Could be from WW1, who cares.
Fixing low nut slot right now.
>>61211529
Not using a 7 string for extended low range to transcribe classical piano/cello songs.

What's the appeal? What the hell is a difference between a 3000 Fender and a 1500 fender, both American made in the same factory?

You're about a decade too late to become better than below average. You can still have fun, though.

>>61211761
Snarling Dogs Mold Spore.
>>61211600
for the longest time, i ran just the 81 in the bridge, 81 is fucking sick in the bridge
a few years back i put in the 85 in the neck and honestly it's not that great
i guess it matches the 81's sound but it's just a little bit much for a neck pickup, if i could do it again i would have picked something a little more subtle.
>>61211620
nothing to be ashamed of, brobeans. i mostly meant pickups, as a lot of good guitars ship with shit pickups
but also the potentiometers and pickup switches tend to be flimsy/crackly, the electronics of a (normal) guitar really are only the pickups, pots, switch(es), and the output jack

>>61211890
actually, yea. the guitar i posted in >>61211428 came with them, and i'm switching them out for a duncan set.
your mileage may vary, but i thought they were weak, muddy, and had spongey attack. I fucking hated them- probably not even going to try to sell the set i took out of the LTD, probably going to just throw them in the trash.
pickups obviously don't need to be active to be nice, but i thought the HZ's missed the mark by a long shot
>>61211908

Round two, not enough glue the first time.
>>61212006
are you using bone nut dust along with the glue? using superglue by itself is kind of pointless and the string will eat it away quickly

Because if that was the idea you were trying to convey, you failed miserably, son. I suggest you take a grammar course.
how do i go from rhythm guitar to lead guitar for metal? the tabs are like a brick wall
>>61212420
no, that totally helps, i'm a metal/punkfag too
for the doomy sludgey stuff you don't necessarily need the clarity of an active pickup, but you do want a high output pickup (at least in your bridge position, your neck is a little less crucial for these styles)
I always thought the seymour duncan invader was a good high output pickup that was still thick in tone, start there
try to check those out first, but also try to play any guitars that have a duncan JB in the bridge, or a dimebucker.
some emg's might work too, but i think the 81 in the bridge would be a little bit harsh/bright for what you're describing. 85 or a 60 might work though
i don't have any experience with dimarzio's, sorry
i believe emg and seymour duncan have pickup demo's on their website, but i bet google would be able to help too, as long as you have a starting point
hope this helps, bromosapien
>>61212627
>>61212754
For further clarification:
>Not because I don't love mine, I just want more cool shit.
means you don't love your guitar but it isn't the reason why you want a new one.
>>61212773
Try something more basic like blues and classic rock. Then bluesy metal like Judas Priest and finally shredding.
Post battle scars
>>61212773
Lol. Might be better to try to learn a real simple song by ear first. I good ear makes learning lead parts so much faster. Bass really helps with this, but if you only play guitar just try to find something with not a lot of chords. Pale Blue Eyes is a pretty easy one.

To me, "thick without mud" describes either a hot single coil, or the middle position on a two single coil guitar, or a low output humbucker. But probably the most "thick but not muddy" tone I can think of is a humbucker in parallel. But the question is vague enough only the asker can know the answer.

JJ are my pick out of the modern tube manufacturers. I tend to use JJ power amp tubes and various NOS preamps.
You probably won't notice a huge difference unless your current tubes are fairly old though.
>>61211022
Hard to justify anything when you're that close to an SLO. SLO100s are incredible. Unfortunately they get price gouged in this country since only one distributor can get them. Last time I spoke to them an SLO100 with a depth mod was $13,000.
>>61211184
I've played a few shows with my Les Paul Custom, but I tend to use MIJ Ibanez stuff instead. A bit easier to play and not nearly as much money if it gets stolen.
>>61211377
Nice gothic. I have an explorer from the original run. Pre-EMG so it has the 500T/496R set. I have an 85/85 set in there at the moment, but I'm going to swap it to Lundgren M6 I think.
>>61211761
Probably an Eventide Space. I own pretty much everything I want effects wise already, but the Space seems cool.
>>61211817
Try an 85 in the bridge. I used to be a big fan of 85/85 before I got into BKP stuff however long ago.
>>61211888
Should try an ISP Decimator if you get the chance. Great pedal.
>>61212316
Funfact. When I bought my AxeFX II XL from the distributor here they wanted me to pay for shipping. After spending 3k+ they weren't willing to pay for shipping. Left a sour taste in my mouth.
>>61212420
Check out BareKnuckle Holy Divers. Warpigs could work too, but you'd be sacrificing on the lighter side of your playing for more output and grindier mids.
>>61212827

>need high output
Anything mid output up should work fine really. The only pickup I've ever used that made me want more output was a ceramic magnet PAF Pro.

I need some recs for 4x12 cabs. I'd like to get a pair of orange PPC412s but there's only one on craiglist around here for way too much used. I've had my eye on a reissue Sunn 412 but it's going to be a pain to ship. Is anybody selling a 412?
how long do we have to wait before disco comes back?
>>61212905
Not mine actually. But god do I love beaten up strats. Something about a Strat, that is dinged and damaged just looks really nice.
But I will never be able to play a Strat. Too thick neck, no 24 frets, no jumbo frets. If they ever make one American Strat with a 24 fret, and thin modern neck, that would be fucking awesome.
No an RG is not an answer.

>>61213305
Yeah the VHII or Blackdog are both great pickups too. People love Emeralds as well, but I was iffy on the one I had.
For what you were saying though I'd be looking at the Contemporary options more. They all have pretty good clean tones (besides the Miracle Man), but I probably wouldn't use a ceramic pickup.
>>61213316
Yeah it's a really stupid inlay, they're great guitars though. I mainly use it for recording so it doesn't really bother me. Got some BKPs in there with a push pull coil split.
That year or K-7 is very similar to a UV7BK but usually cheaper. Mahogany body and a slightly thicker neck profile which agrees with me more coming from Gibsons.

Yeah I'm not a fan of pointy guitars so I rounded it off, the neck is going onto a little side project me and a friend are doing.

>>61213103
the kelly body is being rounded off a little more, need new sanding pads to finish her off, buying a new neck but with an ebony fret board. (I'm going all out on this thing, planning on 59 duncans maybe a JB too)

I don't think I've ever listened to Korn. Like I said in my last post, the first couple years of K-7 are basically UV7BKs but better and cheaper. I've got it for tracking so I don't really care about the inlay.
>>61213559
Yeah if you're going all out that pickup will blow a JB out the water. I plan to get a set for my Les Paul when I can. Out of all the BKPs I've tried I always end up back at a Holy Diver.

>>61213662
Made by the same team with the extra level of QC, but the K-7 had a 5-piece neck with an AANJ joint where as the UV7BK had a 1 piece and the square heel.
K-7 was also made out mahogany so it doesn't have the denting issue that plagues basswood Ibanez from that era. Mine is thirteen years old now and I don't exactly baby it. Looks great still.
Hardware besides that is pretty much identical but the K-7 is H-H and the UV7BK was H-S-H.
Only real issue with the K-7, besides the inlay anyway, is that the stock pickups up ceramic PAF Pros, which kind of suck, I don't like the Blaze pickups in the UV7 though either. I swapped them out for a Painkiller bridge and Holy Diver neck.
I did a couple videos with it last month if you want to hear how it sounds?
>>61213676
Yeah the explorer was the first guitar I really bonded with. I had an RG1527 with BKP Miracle Men before it, but I never really gelled with it.
>how do you like the 85 in the bridge?
Keeping in mind I don't really like EMGs, I do quite like the 85/85 approach. I've always liked A5 pickups more though, so your mileage may vary really.
It's not as bright or brittle as the 81. Fattens up the mid range and low end as well. It doesn't track quite as fast, but that never bothered me.

i'm thinking of doing a clear satin finish, so once i finish sanding it down, my basic plan is to seal the wood and then spray some of pic related on, wetsanding at 220 grit and then again at 320
is this a good idea? am i way off?
Guys help me choose a diy kit for myself for Xmas
>~$300 jaguar clone kit with all the options
>~$300 1/2 w diy tube amp. All parts included except the $85 predrilled enclosure. Fuck that.
And fyi diy is a lot easier than you think it is. Even the psnsiest of you little girl faggots could make an efx, a guitar, or even an amp. 100% dead serious.
>>61214704
If you have all the parts for the jaguar and not the amp, do the jaguar.
>>61214671
not too sure for a satin finish but nitro cellulose is beautiful stuff, have it on the gibson and it smells like a marshmallowy dream, if you get it to work let me know, but i would maybe go with a higher grit wet and dry instead of 320 sandpaper, get a finer finish on it. you going to buffer it afterwards then to make it shine, or?
>>61214671

Grindcore has a ton of musical freedom but a guitar like that won't really get any laughs. You'll come across as trying to hard to be ironic. It's lacking nuance I guess.
I have a grindcore project in the works at the moment, but I'm doing more vocals than guitar work. Taking a lot of inspiration from Gridlink.

>>61215223
I don't get it either. I don't know anything about slave amps.
>>61215130
A slave amp allows you to add additional cabs to your rig. Say you have a 100w head with a pair of 4x12s connected but you want another stack. You run the Preamp out jack into the front of the slave (which is the same as a Power amp Input on most amps). You then connect additional cabs to that slave, and you can slave as long as you want basically.
The old Sunn ones are usually easy to find for cheap, check the Sunn amp facebook group. I know you can still order them from Matamp and Electric, but I would bet hovercraft or somebody would make you one for the right price. You could also just buy a rackmount power amp, just make sure it has the 1/4" jacks you need. I have the Traynor power amp in the pic I use as a slave sometimes.
The thing is, you dont really need a slave. Almost any amp with a FX loop can be used as a slave amp, you're just bypassing the preamp section.
>>61215223
>>61215252
Basically you send the preamp out of the main amplifier to the power amp of another amplifier so you can drive another couple cabinets off of it.
It's not that useful nowadays.
>>61215202
Not a superstrat. I want a Strat shape.
>>61215270
They were more popular when PA's were nonexistant in medium size venues. I like the Sunn ones as more of a novelty. I use one for each cab to take the stress off my main head.
>>61215294
Just make sure you have a cabinet connected to your head still. I'm sure you know that though.
>>61215202
that strat logo is sick
>>61215281

>>61215263
okay, so if i was to use an second amp as a slave i would use the preamp out on the amp i was running my guitar through. to the preamp in on another amp to push the same amount of sound on both cabinets?
or am i completely stupid?
Guys, what should i get, an Epiphone Casino, an Epiphone ES 335 or an Epiphone Wildkat.
It's my first time getting a good guitar(my first guitar was a rogue rocketeer) so any advice would help
>>61215326
Yeah, my Sunn Coliseum Lead can technically put out 320 watts at 2ohms, but if I constantly ran it at that it'd be spending more time with a tech than in my rig. I just run an 8 or 16ohm cab with it, and run one or two more off a pair of slaves.
>>61215281
Aidrian Smith Jacksons Are Pretty Fucking Killa For The Price.
>>61215263
>>61215270
So to oversimplify it, plug your main amp into the slave to use more cabinets?
>>61215403
>to the preamp in
to the power amp in
>>61215446
but he wants 24 frets
>>61215403
It should be either "Power amp in" or "FX return".
MOST Fx loops work like that, but I know some of the newer marshalls dont. Make sure you dont use Line out though, it's too hot. You wont need to use ANY knobs on your slave unit, all the volume and tone controls are on the Main amp, and not affected by controls on the other amp. Do you have a picture of what you're trying to get your rig to look like?
>>61215409

Casino is the best sounding imo, but it's completely hollow and will feedback if you use lots of distortion. If you mainly play clean or with light overdrive it's a no-brainer.
The wildkat is cool but the cheap bigsby might be a pain, I'd choose the 335 over it.

i've bought a handful of JJ Toobz for some preamps that had lowly chinatubes and i'm thrilled with them. they're clean, full spectrum, get warmer and warmer as you push them but don't start to break-up until you reach the top. And they were like $15 too.
>>61215548
It'd be my my first band, for one thing. I'd even be willing to join a metal group at this point. They get gigs regularly, and also I like the majority of those songs. They have all 3 other members lined up. Bummer about ted nugent though.
>>61215553
Yeah with high gain (as in metal levels) you'll definitely get bad feedback, which can be good in some situations depending how you look at it. It'll do blues rock stuff just fine though.
John Lennon played one on "Revolution" so it can definitely handle a decent amount of grit without bad feedback problems.
>>61215469
i probably don't need it, i'm just curious
but i have two Acoustic 410's, an Ampeg SVT350 and an Kustom B200H and i was just wondering how it would be done because i was thinking about building a live setup where i have a cabinet on both sides of the drumset.

I'm very interested in this kind of finish as well senpaitachi.

Well, looks like the Casino it is!
Thanks for the advice anon(s)
>>61215487
the rhythm section for all those songs is fairly simple.
The rolling stones songs are all in open tuning. and it's where you would shine most as rhythm player.
All those songs can be played in standard tuning. but in case you want to look more "rounded", I would tune to open tuning to play Honky Tonk Women, Brown Sugar, and Jumpin Jack Flash.
You can learn all these songs in a day or two, if you're a comfortable player.
>>61215625
no problem, I bet you'll love it. I think it's one of the best guitars epiphone makes.
>>61215641
Thanks for the info. I hope I have to buy another guitar because of the stones songs lol.
>>61215487
little wing if you want to make it sound good
>>61212970
Fucking you again, I thought I got you to quit whining with my fucked up Les Paul. Seriously, your whining is obnoxious and no one cares.
>>61215764
what the fuck dude, how can you even play that?
>>61215666
thank you satan
>>61215764
why does that wood look like you left a tub of Toll House cookie dough open for a week
>>61215774
It feels smoother than it looks. I run 9s in Eb on it and the neck has just enough relief to not buzz.
>>61215735
The rhythm part is like 30 seconds long at the end? It seems pretty easy. They have a lead guitar player.
>>61215794
My best guess is previous owner routed out a channel and filled it with a piece or 2 of metal and wood putty.
>>61215487
none of them are that hard rhythmically. the stones songs are going to be kind of a pain in the ass because you need to tune to dadgad to make it sound right
the most specific rhythmic part is the beginning of little wing (more like a mix of rhythm and lead) and maybe honky tonk woman. to get honky tonk to sound right you really need to get those keith richards licks down or it's going to sound lame as hell, specifically the verse parts, the rest is just pumping the I/IV thing he does in all his songs
>>61215843
>dadgad
bleh, not dadgad, he uses open g - dgdgbd
New guitar day and I'm feeling great.
>>61215879
How is it?
>>61215764
It still hurts to have that paint chip though... I wouldn't mind if it wasn't a 1.2k guitar ;_;
>>61215222
I dunno man. Eric Clapton sounds like he was going to drop his kid out a window. Then he dropped his kid out a window and wrote that gay song. Now he just sounds like he dropped his kid out of the window.
>>61215889
probably going to change the strings to Elixir 10s but oh man its great. the pickups are superb, and the fretboard feels great. the only gripe i have is that when I do tapping riffs like when playing Protest or Scale the Summit, the killswitch is a little hard to avoid - but thats just because my hands are massive.
Feels like a dream though and man I love this guitar
>>61215939
fucking savage
>>61215804
if you just play the straight chords yeah it's pretty easy but Hendrix did a lot of R&B style comping which adds little rhythmic inflections that aren't exactly lead work.
Should be fine with two guitarists though,
>>61215953
lol rite
You're the one who thinks I shot the sheriff was a good idea. I'd rather watch dancing in the streets.

Paint chips are stupid. They are not even a permanent damage. You can always pay someone to repaint your guitar, if you value it so much.
>>61216010
i think you replied to the wrong person dude
>>61215918
You must be autistic
>>61215918
do you live in bolivia or some shithole that 1.2k is a ton of money?
get over it, you just gave your guitar character
if you're this worried about a paint chip, you probably suck shit at playing it
>>61216032
>implying a noticeable repair won't drive its price even lower than the chip
;_;

Thanks. I do like open G since I started listening to the eagles of death metal.
>tfw they got shot at in paris and now everyone knows about them
>>61215696
It would help a lot to get another guitar to have in (let's say) open G tuning.
I play Brown Sugar and Jumpin Jack Flash in standard tune all the time. It would sound so much more closer to home if I tuned to open G or open E instead. If you're strapped on cash and can't afford another guitar to play those songs, just remember Keith uses a lot of suspended chords in those songs. especially in Brown Sugar. And if you do choose to buy another guitar, buy a capo as well, use it on the 6th or 7th fret to play jumping jack flash in open G tuning (the song is actually in open E). It's how he play's it nowadays and it sounds amazing.
>>61216133
>actually not autistic
You must be for making a huge fuss over that tiny ass chip bruh.

I love how easy it is to b8 /gg/, I'm not even the original screw fag, I downloaded the pic and copied the post and many of the replies here and you all played into my hands like the easily baited newfag plebs you are.
>>61216090
I absolutely did not
>>61216135
the only album ive ever liked by them is heart on
>>61216150
they actually aren't suspended, it's more like an implied suspension. he's just playing an inverted version of a IV chord without the root. he uses it so much in his songs i just call that I-IV shape movement he does the 'keith richards riff'
he uses it in so many fucking songs
