Couldn't get into this album at all. Heard "Stolen Dance" on KissFM and was super excited to buy it on iTunes but the rest just sounded weird
>>61142164
I love this album but no, not at all
The most experimental thing related to BMSR is either Allegheny Whitefish or some shit by Power Pill Fist, and they aren't even particularly experimental in the grand scheme of things.
Most of it was just a loud buzz that moved around the soundstage

Also there are 5 tracks listed on the track listing, but there are 23 on the disc. The assumption is that the last 18 tracks are the 5th track, named I, II, III, IV, and so on

The tags on the one I listened to put roman numerals at the end of each Tunnel of Goats track, but this might be more accurate.
Copypasting my favourite RYM review of this (and one of my favourite RYM reviews in general) because frankly, it's the most accurate representation of what this sounds like
>Take the aural warzone of Les Rallizes Denudes and replace literally all of their melody with absurdly heavy psych riffs, but NOISIER. Somehow.
>I imagine the guy mixing this had a serious acid flashback and saw the knob labeled "Level" start yelling "TURN ME, YOU BEAUTIFUL BASTARD" in highly broken Japanese. After immediately ejaculating, he spent the next two days turning that knob in a meditative stupor, praying to long-dead pagan gods for the keys to the crystal kingdom. It was only after the police found him behind the Hobby Lobby wearing only the skin of a freshly killed non-native moose that his psychiatrist's long-nagging suspicions had been confirmed.
>There aren't very many heavy psych albums this heavy. Back in 1996, this would have been one of the most returned albums of all time, I reckon. Plenty of people screaming "SOMETHING IS, OH MY GOD, AAAAAAAAAAAH GOD, YOU HAVE TO, NOOOOOOOOO" at trendy Tower Records shops, clutching only this album and a Bible soaked in tears before collapsing onto the floor in convulsions.
>To this day, I'm hesitant to turn it on in my apartment. A week ago I played "Black Sky" pretty loudly and the orphanage across the street burst into flames, with literally hundreds of orphans on fire running out into the street. When the fire engine arrived, they ran out of water before the fire was in any way minimized. It took a further seventeen fire engines to finally put out the blaze. The most mysterious part was that none of the orphans were injured, and all of them were heard not screaming, but laughing.
>I'll say this, if it WAS a coincidence, it's a pretty remarkable one.
>>61141698
you too huh :oo? i was like dafuq is this wtf?!?! i like it better now but its weird and cool..
>>61141698
I know alot of people don't like it, and it is pretty weird/crazy alot of the time but I dont know why but I like it.
>>61143671
TOTALLY AGREED, now i dont feel so bad for not "getting it"

TMR is truly one of best and most experimental albums out there. If you play close attention to your shitty /mu/core, you will notice that most of it has been influenced by this album.
One thing that makes it a great (if not the best) album is that it is timeless. No matter how many times you listen to it, it'll be a total different expirience. If you pay close attention to one single instrument in TMR you can truly see how complex it is. A lot of effort and thougth has been put in every single note of this album. TMR is like an alternative or psychedelic pop/hip-hop more than anything else, and what it makes it one of a kind.
So grab your Radiohead, Animal Collective, Faust, Death Grips, Swans, Xiu Xiu, etc. and shove it up your ass because TMR, and Captain Beefheart in general, defines experimental, avant-garde, and innovative while still being likeable and great

lmao no, those collages even appeared in Whitehouse's albums
>>61141817
stop with this stupid reddit me-me that trout mask is even experimental. you stupid fucks with shit taste dont even know. Compared to the likes of bands like my favorites, the death grips and Animal Collective (its okay if you guys don't know them most people dont), Trout Mask is baby-tier. Get off my board and get better taste you entry level drones.
