DJ Manny - Trackaholic Vol. 2
DJ Mastercard - Corrupt Memories
DJ Paypal - Buy Now
DJ Paypal - Sold Out
DJ Rashad - 6613
DJ Spinn - Off That Loud
DJ Taye - Break It Down
Machinedrum - Movin' Forward: A Tribute to DJ Rashad
RP Boo - Classics Vol. 1
RP Boo - Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints
Uncle Texx - Dropout EP
Vatogato & Cakedog - DGM.VOL.1_VATOGATO&CAKEDOG

You only brought it up to try and get people to think you're "patrician" or something.

No, it's because comparing it with more "stupid" releases isn't fair because people praised it for being shit like "an outlier in terms of minimalist abstraction and intensity." Comparing it to Teklife stuff is like comparing apples to oranges.

Also don't get the love some people have for that jlin album, its very mediocre watered down footwork that isn't worth talking about. It's not awful but it's definitely not any good either.
>>
>>61141343

>Dark Energy just featured the same triplet or quasi-triplet rhythm over and over again

if you ever tried dancing you would realize that is the foundation of footwork
>>
>>61141501
>its very mediocre watered down footwork that isn't worth talking about.
you mean RP Boo right?
>>
>>61140554
Not awful, just mediocre with a few occasional good ideas in it. The pseudo-harpsichord tracks are fucking beautiful IMO.
>>
>>61141357
Yeah I do, I think with RP Boo I have no investment in the history and legacy of footwork so when I hear an album that's pretty amateur yet has all the hallmarks of a "classic" footwork album I still see it as amateur.
Jlin though I think I really wanted to like it because of how much it had been hyped up, and then the endless triplets and songs with very little progression (especially from a genre that doesn't usually feature smooth, subtle progression, mostly hard cuts) just didn't really do much for me.
Again, maybe if I viewed this through a lens of footwork precedence it might be new and exciting, but as it stands I just can't get into either of them.

>>

his album is

u never been to chicago ave u
>>
>>61141659
I did, and that's why I said it wasn't "super simplified." It's proper footwork but I think it's definitely streamlined to a degree (and does it much better than Jlin did.) See >>61141670, like most dance music the singles actually used by DJs in their intended environment are going to be a better representation of the core of the genre than an album will be.
>>
>>61141721
I've listened to his music which I guess you haven't.

seriously JLin's work is infinitely more interesting than Boo's trash album

there's so much more going on in meter shifts, harmony shifts, beat shifts, like everywhere

it's fucking incontestable, literally
>>
>>61141673
first track is for actual footworking
second tracks are for faggot fashion shows
>>
>>61141701

I think the albums are more a personal taste issue. JLin album tries to move outside normal footwork. RPBoo is more traditional sounding. Boo still has great tracks.

*track is
>>
>>61141764
What does that have to do with the quality, shitposter?
>>
>>61141785

>>
the problem I have is you faggots say Lin's record is too boring and repetitive when Boo's record is INCREDIBLY fucking repetitive, with like no meter shifts and no changes in harmony or anything.

you're fucking hypocrites who have NO fucking clue what you're talking about
>>
>>61141759
lad, i have. and it's dance music - idc about meter shifts and i can tell you from living in the footwork capital and being part of the scene that rp boo's is better for footworking. that's how i quantify it - it's not watered down.

but i mean for headphone music i suppose jlin is better or w/e but that's not what the genre is about 4me. your mileage may vary, i suppose.
>>
>>61141785
What he's saying is that it's watered down from the core of the genre. The Jlin track (and pretty much any track off her album) is practically just an instrumental hip hop track that incorporates some footwork-esque elements. Rhythmically even that Mark Fell album someone was posting earlier is closer to footwork than Dark Energy is.
>>
>>61141810
It's dance music? It's supposed to be repetitive and sustain a groove. Fuck, you autists have never been to a club I swear.
>>
>>61141826

that doesn't make it better though

>>
>>61141810
Dance music is supposed to be repetitive, which isn't the same thing as boring. You ain't know shit.
>>
>>61141856
>>61141872

I haven't said it was compositionally repetitive, I said that it was boring and obnoxious as fuck.

>>61141882

>>
>>61141915

>>
>>61141620
neither one

RP Boo was a mentor to Jlin and a lot of the tracks on his album were recorded over a decade ago, you can't compare them without taking into account the era, historical context, and methods of creation.

they're both great but Jlin's album is better, RP Boo's new album was all of his old trax that weren't good enough for Legacy (one of the best footwork releases of all time)

dance culture is entirely relevant to dance music, hence why you couldn't understand why people in the footwork scene preferred rp boo's. it's music that's made for clubs and battles and big soundsystems - it's not like "idm" or more experimental techno or ambient which is for headphone listening.

I get what you mean, but for many people the two can't be divorced. So you think that the Jlin album is better in general (while the RP Boo is the better Footworking album) - but that in ITSELF is why many people consider the music RP Boo makes to be superior to Jlin's. How well it works in context is how many of these people quantify their taste and that's not "wrong" (neither is yours) just a different perspective, y'know? So for you, while the music maybe be more interesting or complex to just listen to in a more cerebral fashion, but that's totally irrelevant for others who don't listen to music out of its intended setting.

It's like, I think most Berghain style techno is totally dull at home, but on a banging soundsystem on a club it's fucking untouchable - and that's how I personally judge the value of club music.

But it's like, what is objectivity with club music? The subs and mids in Dubstep are designed for a much bigger sound system - so is it fair to judge it while listening to it on laptop speakers? Well, yeah it is, but I think you're missing a very large part of the appeal and pertinent "information" when you do that. I guess I just have a different viewpoint when it comes to dance music as I think separation kind of misses the point of club music's aim. I'm not sure the Fallout comparison is exactly right with what I'm trying to say - It'd be more like not playing on it's intended platform.

That Kode9 album was a fucking joke, wasn't it? Otherwise it's going to launch a new microgenre, goofstep.

I enjoyed the shit out of this even though it's complete garbage. Unlock the Swag and Throw Sum Mo are amazingly terrible but too memorable to forget

>>61142414

agreed, the medieval times fanfare (so edgy and unexpected) and rapping ("Quetzalcoatl", yuck) make it truly awful
>>
>>61140682
>but then he got too "experimental" and edgy and sexual

Why is this bad?
>>
>>61140781

What a fucking awful jumble of words and unwarranted comparisons. Get taste.

How does boring=worst? It wasn't downright bad, it was just bland.

Wasn't that last year?

Also, I agree that Depression Cherry is easily worst album of the year.

Because it's gimmick and doesn't improve the quality of the music whatsoever. Sure, he can make some neat sounds now and again, but those mean nothing when he can't compile a decent song with them. Also, his entire image just reeks of basic, Rammstein-tier provocation. Overall, he should've stopped after &&&&&& and went out as a mysterious, cult beatmaker instead of petering out after everyone realizes what a one trick pony he is.

Oh, I misread the thread. I thought he said worst album I heard this year, not worst album of the year. The other albums still stand though.
>>
>>61142712
I've tried listening to a couple of tracks from this, but everything I've heard, especially the promo trailer thing on YouTube, sounds really insincere and tacky. Production isn't bad, but it's very tame and safe.
