Yes, it's almost the same melody, but both have a completely different atmosphere. I just happen to like the nin "version" more.

Listen to the synths.

Why do people call him a sexist?
>>
Because he doesn't dick around by being anything he's not. He's a surly grumpy old man always frightened he's on the verge of relapsing back into his Downward Spiral/ Fragile drug and alcoholic lifestyle and he knows it.
>>
>>61129636
Do you like breaks?

I agree.

best

People like to throw around the word genius a lot.
>>
>>61130811
yeah I agree, but he's definitely one of the most innovative artists of the last 50 years or so by far, so he deserves a lot of credit imo (although all of his newer stuff stinks).

All good choices

I was pretty obsessed with this group during my teen years

This is my thing he's done

>>
>>61132023
wow man... I was obsessed with nin in my teens too / long time fan and this version of the becoming immediately became my favorite too when it was released. I guess us nin fans think alike.
>>
>>61131465
hesitation marks was good, what are you talking about? or at least i liked it
>>
>>61132589

Hesitation Marks is my running jam. One hour of a solid beat as I hit the road. Except for Black Noise. That last track is too spooky for me to listen to.
>>
>>61132589
>>61133140
Generational differences maybe? I don't know... It's all just too "electronica" for me. I grew up on nin bought broken and tds when they were released. Personally I like the happy medium between electronic and heavy rock he created.
>>
>>61133448

I got into it by the Fragile Era. But I was only listening to TDS, Broken and PHM.

Most artists at Trent's age coast on their past achievements. Not Reznor though. He's figured out a perfect combination of experimentation and nostalgia. I will admit that the new stuff is always hard to get into firs. For me WITH_TEETH was a travesty when it first got released, but it grew on me as did Hesitation Marks.
>>
Because of all the ULTRA EDGY 90's Industrial artists, Trent was one of, if not just the only one, who didn't make that shit up.
>>
>people actually thinking he's "innovative"
>>
i kinda like the title track on the downward spiral
>>
>>61129533
Are you fucking kidding me? They're equals. Both have been able to master this ability to channel practically every form of music and artform out there into one divine spectacle. Neither one are socially decent men, but they're both playing to the ancient and proverbial lost genius, the artistic wonder that simply could do anything. Neither one of these men will die old and happy, but they will not die young.

They are classics, legends, unequaled in their field. They are the true myths.
>>
>>61133713
duh
>>
>>61133713
Yeah
>>
I think NIN is probably the most personally relateable music project out there. Trent's whole aesthetic vision is truley beautiful
>>
He's a brilliant yet swole producer. That's it.
>>
>>61129638
I think A Warm Place is kind of like a refined version of the Crystal Japan melody
>>
>>61129533
LOL
>>
>>61129614
Tough choice
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7EsX-oJe6s
I feel The Slip in general is underrated
>>
>tfw only like quiet NIN songs
>all the loud songs don't do it for me
>Ghosts is my favourite album

Am I doing it wrong?
>>
>>61129372
I call him a genius mainly because of his lyricism. He is also a musical genius, but surrounds himself with other great musical minds (alan moulder, atticus ross, etc.) so it's tough for me to know what percentage of the NIN/The Social Network/How To Destroy Angels genius is really him. Every NIN album is great. Everything his name is associated with is great. He is great.
>>
New nin in 2016 pham.
Hoping for new Ghosts or that The Fragile remaster.
>>
>>61134082
Doin it right. Ghosts is great.

reznor actually does the production himself fammo, they're not equals

See that's true to an extent but you see Kanye is not a sophomoric producer. He has proven to be more than capable than GOAT tier at the deck. He's not only a mastermind producer, but he's a stylistic genius, and a mediocre-average singer.

They have a ridiculous amount in common, with a little exception to style.

Actually you may be surprised to discover that some of Reznor's best work was producing others albums.

What do you mean no? Reznor is a fantastic producers with other artists, and so is Kanye.

Secondly, Kanye and Reznor have both produced to their own albums.

What is your basis for refuting this?
>>
>>61134340
it's well known that a huge part of the sound engineering, production, orchestration and arrangement on kanye's more successful albums is done by other people
>>
>>61134357
it's all about the vision
>>
Post your favorite song from Hesitation Marks. I'm curious what people think about that album at this point.

can you cite one example of this?

>but surrounds himself with other great musical minds (alan moulder, atticus ross, etc.) so it's tough for me to know what percentage of the NIN/The Social Network/How To Destroy Angels genius is really him.
Alan Moulder is an engineer and Atticus is basically his assistant producer, they don't participate in the writing in the music. All NIN/HTDA albums and movie soundtracks are 90% him.
>>
>>61138558

marilyn manson, billy corgan and kurt cobain
>>
>>61136896
No, because that's actually Trent Reznor and not a boring, derivative, bootleg Trent Reznor. Seriously, if NIN were never a thing, Arca would just be another crossdressing, back-alley whore.
>>
>>61138716
Funny you see that because that's exactly how I see Arca. I just can't find the appeal. Maybe it's because I'm a privileged white hetero male.
