Why won't he just admit he knows nothing about Jazz?

>Why won't he just admit he knows nothing about Jazz?
where's the profit in that?
>>
>Implying this was an inaccurate review
Tell me, what did he get wrong with this record that you heard clearer/could have explained better? I'm legitimately curious.

honestly WHAT THE FUCK
WHO MAKES THESE KINDS OF FUNDAMENTAL MISUNDERSTANDINGS ABOUT BASIC JAZZ TERMINOLOGY
>>
>>61113874
it's okay

his fans don't know that stuff either
>>
Isn't that the point of liking Jazz anyway? The more you know about it (and music in general) the more you realize it's crap for talentless hacks.
>>
>>61113874
What term would you recommend he use then?
>>
>>61114298
eboniphonics
>>
>>61113938
You sound like a person who has listened to two Jazz albums.
>>
Why won't he just admit he knows nothing about Progressive Dreamfunk?
>>
>>61114329
I grew out of Jazz and other gimmicky shit almost a decade ago, so yeah in the last 10 years I probably didn't listen to more than a couple of Jazz albums.
>>
>>61113938
No, the more you get into jazz, the more you realize pop-jazz is completely vapid, and you start getting into free-jazz and avant garde shit.
>>
>>61114351
Define pop jazz for me.
>>
>>61114351
cringing

>I listened to two albums ten years ago so yeah, I feel totally justified in shitting on the genre since I don't understand it.
Great m8.
I bet you don't even know an instrument.
>>
>>61114371
I mean, this guy is definitely being an asshat, but you shouldn't need to know an instrument to have music impact you.

free jazz is good though
>>

Jazz targeting the mainstream, on non-jazz labels like brainfeeder, nu-jazz, anything that tries to appeal to a younger audience by introducing electronics and generally simplifying their compositions.
>>
>>61114351
>free-jazz and avant garde shit
literally edgy teencore
>>
>>61113157
Why won't YOU admit you know nothing about jazz?
>>
>>61114432
Avant garde sure, but free jazz? It's not even that out there in most cases, pretty easy to follow.

People with no formal education in musicology or music theory giving their "opinions".

>>61113157
This album is great though, one of my favorites of the year. Went to Scott's show back in September, even better live.
>>
>>61114441
It's all the same "I'm so randum and quirky" sporkcore crap.
>>
>>61114428
So are artists not allowed to express themselves however they want? Was Miles Davis selling out when he starting trying to make new standards out of Michael Jackson songs, or do you think he was just exploring a new sound?
>>
>>61113938

What is it called then?
>>
>>61114479
I think you're pushing it a bit too far calling Miles Davis an artist.
>>
>>61114493
If he isn't considered an artist what is he?

>>61114499

come on man.
>>
>>61114479
I never said they're not allowed to make music, just that most often the focus is on making it sound good on a very surface level, and that simply doesn't interest me. There's a difference between simplifying with an artistic purpose and doing it for broader appeal (or most likely it's just a lack of talent/interesting ideas)

>>61114493
I don't know what you're smoking.

>>61114471
You obviously haven't explored the genre.
>>
>>61114532
I saw it, but I was curious if this guy had anything interesting to say
>>

An entertainer.
>>
>>61114465
Hate to be that guy, but what other jazz albums from this year did you enjoy?
>>
>>61114535
>You obviously haven't eaten feces of all animals on the planet, so you can't claim that shit tastes bad.
>>
>>61114579
That's a pretty poor analogy m8
>>
>>61114587
And jazz, especially the edgy variants, is a pretty artistically poor genre m8
>>
>>61114599
Name an artistically rich genre other than classical music.
>>
>>61114571
This is why people think jazz is dead, full of spergs questioning people who enjoy fucking music.
>>
>>61114602
no Jazz is "dead" (you only say this because you don't listen to it) because you only listen to the buzz fodder of the month
>>
>>61114601
You answered your own question
>>
>>61114601
Hip hop
>>
>>61114613
So there's only one genre in all of music that's artistically rich

1. Deepest lyrical content
2. Most diverse instrumentals, samples from all other genres
3. Dankest beats
4. Bangers
5. Timeless
6. Ascends the listener to a higher plane
7. Literally the highest art form there is
8. Keeps the listener informed about current social and political events, luxury car brands, narcotics and how much money the rap man has.
"If people are informed they will do the right thing. It's when they are not informed that they become hostages to prejudice."
9. The best genre all around
10. Colorful
11. Always evolving
12. Cool, calm and collected
13. Real
14. Tells stories that the listener can relate to in his personal life
15. The frontier of modern philosophy
16. Dank beats

stopped reading there
>>

Okay you convinced me
>>
>>61114644
What's wrong?
"Deepest" is the correct superlative adjective of "deep".

>>
>>61114619
>one genre
>centuries of vastly different music performed by anything from a single voice or instrument to gigantic orchestras
>one genre
see this is why shit like jazz degenerates your brain
>>
>>61114607
nice fucking reading comprehension retard, he said "think jazz is dead"
>>
>>61114657
Classical has many different genres (opera, suites, concertos, etc.) but in comparison to the differences between Rock and Electronica, it's much more efficient nowadays to call the tradition a genre.

If you were over 18, you would know this.
>>
>>61114657
Okay, so I can agree that Art music is the most artistically rich "genre", but what constitutes art music? Only that which follows the classical tradition, or even sound art such as ryoji ikeda? Define art music.
>>
>>61114689
>but in comparison to the differences between Rock and Electronica, it's much more efficient nowadays to call the tradition a genre
I don't know what's funnier, your ignorance, or calling "Electronica" a genre
>>
>>61114699
I don't know what's funnier: your immaturity, or your pretension.
You'll grow up one day, son.
>>
>>61114571
I meant albums overall from this year, but

>Chris Potter - Imaginary Cities
>Kris Davis Infrasound - Save Your Breath

Those are my two other favorites. Recently been exploring the late 60's a bit more because I never really checked out that part of jazz. I did listen to more jazz records this year, but not a huge fan of Bird Calls or or The Epic.

>>>61114607
Jazz isn't any more dead than it has been for the last 30 years, if anything it is doing better and has lifted itself out of the shithole that was the 80's and 90's. I personally think it is important that people support today's artists and have a fairly progressive mindset for where the music should go.
>>
>>61114762
Pretty good choices anon, personally I really liked Bird Calls. What are your favorite 60's records so far?
>>
>>61114813
If you're talking about the whole 60's:
Pharoah Sanders - Karma
Miles Davis - In a Silent Way
Miles Davis - My Funny Valentine
Cannonball Adderley Quintet - 74 Miles Away
Eric Dolphy - Out There
Duke Ellington and his Orchestra - Far East Suite
Duke Ellington and his Orchestra - Three Suites
>>
>>61114881
Nice, if you haven't already, you should check out
Wayne Shorter's The All Seeing Eye,
Dimensions & Extensions by Sam Rivers,
and The Real McCoy by McCoy Tyner
