Can someone please explain the allure of this song?
It's boring as shit, formulaic and the lyrics are cringe worthy, but people are shitting themselves over this like it's the greatest song of our generation/
What the fuck?
>>61064946
because memes are real
I find the beat relaxing and Drake's dancing humorous. It's not a fantastic song but it's a nice change of pace from what is usually spewed out into the top 40.
this song is chill af if u can't appreciate it i just feel sorry for u :(
also if you're concerned about CRED it fucking samples timmy thomas goddamn
>>61065077
>if you're concerned about CRED
kill yourself
>>61065113
Why would you redirect me to the subreddit you probably post in?
>>61064961
this
we are truly living in the greatest generation of post-ironic memeing
drake is a living meme but a safe version for normies (along with yung thug/yung lean/richard simmons/etc.)
mc ride/lil b/viper/fantano are for the "edgier" internet teen crowd
third-tier is guy fieri/filthyfrank/aaron ellis tier, shit that makes absolutely no sense beyond ironic value
because everyone under the age of 25 likes the same music, dresses the same, says the same memes "dabbin"! "that ___ tho!" "memes lmao xD!" and acts the same now thanks to the homogenization of culture and acceleration with technology and social media.
>>61064946
Music is subjective.
>>61064946
gee, it must be fun hating fun
it's the video, nobody gave a shit about that song before it.
>>61066120
:^)
>>61066120
>still believing this
>>61066138
>it's fun!!!!!
most plebian opinion one can have
>>61064946
Who cares what the general public thinks, listen to what you want to listen to.
When I first heard hotline bling I thought it was a shitty attempt at recreating Heartless
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Co0tTeuUVhU
but after listening to each track after another I've come to the conclusion that hotline bling is generic trash.
the quality of music in the hip hop/rap scene has gone in a very weird direction.
it feels similar to how contemporary art is challenging classical art with it's shock value or just fucking terrible art but claiming "deeper meaning" or some shit.
>>61066245
I bet you're the life of the party
>>61066245
>not understanding what makes music great is it's ability to aestetichize any emotion to allow the listener to connect to it
>not realizing that music is great because it reflects so many aspects of the human existence
who's the pleb again?
>>61066220
>thinking the opposite
Because it's Wii Store music with lyrics.
>>61064946
the reason is because 99% of the top 40 crap is jut utterly crap. then this comes along. it's not terrible, it's just decent so it sounds godlike in comparison,.
it's really that simple
>>61066334
>analysing a meme this much
please kill yourself
In a world of "WHO DAT WHO DAT I-G-G-Y" and "NIGGA DAB DAB NIGGA DAB", it's a breath of fresh air. It's not amazing, but it's great when sandwiched in between most other top 40.
Plus I like the subject matter.
I like the chord progression of the beat. It's pleasant to more ears. The sample is nice. That's about it, really. Pretty good for pop-R&B by Drake. I don't think anybody's trying to say it's the greatest musical piece of our generation. Not seriously, at least.
>>61066328
>if you don't like run of the mill top 40 trash you must be a boring disgusting neckbeard
good goy
>>61066419
>i'm gay i like to be dicked by black rap artists
ah it all comes out
>>61066419
*my ears. Not sure how that happened.
>>61066440

>>61066220
You're a shit. Music is fucking subjective, just like most art forms.
>>61066363
>instructing an stranger on the internet to commit hari-kari on a welsh frequency discussion billboard
>>61066440
Yeah, that's pretty much the jist of what I was saying. Hope you can understand the appeal now.
>>61066438
>projecting this hard
lifeoftheparty.jpg confirmed
>>61066481
>projecting
stop using words you don't understand the meaning of
This song is alluring because
1.) It's Drake and people will eat whatever he shits
2.) It came out around the time of the Wii Music trap remix meme and it fucking sounds like Wii Music.
3.) Vaguely hip hop and it's really stupid and relatable apparently.
He capitalized on a meme. He knows the landscape. We must act now.
>>61066481
You're acting like we don't despise people who try to be the life of the party. Here's how you do it:
1. be insecure
2. be obnoxious
3. be drunk
4. break down crying once you're actually alone
You're all arguing for nothing. Music is subjective
>>61066523
agree
>>61066510
How to be life of the party
>be comfortable with yourself
>have a good time
jeez that was not hard at all
>>61066440
>that projection
>>61066564
Me being comfortable with myself and having a good time means not being at 99% of parties
>>61066564
yeah im sure youre the life of the party, telling people who dont like what you like that theyre boring
I think it's just a nice little song.
its a meme u dip
a shit one
>>61065963
>aaron ellis tier... makes absolutely no sense beyond ironic value
Aaron is a genius
>>61064946
i'd honestly be okay with this being, SOTY.
I don't even listen to drake, but this song and the one about "running 6 on woes" or whatever. Perfectly translates despair, in the hip-hop culture. I don't give a fuck about lyrics, and I don't really care for the music video (although I get why he would want to make it). so yea, you just read this, im drunk and i like 1800hotlinebling
>>61066805
aaron pls

when will this epic meme die?
>>61066300
>shitty attempt at recreating Heartless
do you even have ears?
>I've come to the conclusion that hotline bling is generic trash
no u do not
>>61066501
This, except that he stole the beat off another song

>>61066591
fucking this
>>61067341
>>61068115
its funny because youre proving him right by saying the same post everyone else says.
>>61064946
The allure is that it's Drake. That's it. That sums it up. It's a new Drake song.
>>61066109
fuck no
>>61066335
Le downvoted.
>>61066109
You either spend way to much time on social media, or way to much time interacting with boring people. You probably like to think of your self as separate, cleverer, or maybe more 'unique' as the rest of your peers, (or maybe you're commenting on what you think is wrong with todays youth) , but the truth is that you're just as basic and boring as you think they are.
>>61066109
aw jeez grandpas off his happy pills again
>>61069133
actually maybe
>>61069218
>>61069241
haha lookat all these people scared by what i said. whats the matter kids? hit too close to home? ya how about you go do or say something original and think for yourself for once. dumb fucks.
>>61069287
yes scared is what I was emoting when I said you were an old man who was not on his pills.
you
are
MAD
familia/brethren
>>61067274
Naw, it will never end
>>61069287
it's okay buddy, i actually agree with you unlike these self absorbed retards and these latest memes have just given them positive reinforcement. i like the song, and most mainstream music, but you're just lying to yourself when you say young people nowadays aren't fucking retarded and have 0 individuality, myself included
>>61069287
you're just mad because you went from being a basic 18 year old to a basic 26 year old, and basic 26 year olds love to shit on younger people
I dont know im still trying to figure out why drake is filed under rap and not pop or r and b
>>61066470
Hey I'm welsh
>>61069361
>>61069306
wow still going huh? i guess the truth hurts. i dont blame you its sad really.
>>61069491
And I don't blame you for being a sad old faggot
the stupid thing is you're just trolling and I'm just trolling. We're just trolling each other with things we don't necessarily believe.
And you're a sad old faggot who wishes he was young again.
>>61069526
i dont wish to be dumb, with no money, living at home, and a virgin who has no idea how the real world works. no i dont wish to be that at all haha.
>>61069558
so when you were young you were "dumb, with no money, living at home, and a virgin who has no idea how the real world works"
>these are your words
this explains a lot, sad old faggot anon (SOFA)
Do we look like the kind of store who sells You Used To Call Me On My Cell Phone?
>>61069593
yes. im sorry i wasnt making 60k a year, with my own house, and the wisdom of a 40 year old when i was 15 years old in highschool.
>>61069558
Everyone being similar is the way the world works, you're starting to contradict yourself
>>61069626
Prove it, SOFA
>>61069647
wrong again my under 25 friend. there used to be many different styles and groups simultaneously co-existing in highschool. now theres only one.
>>61069715
Are you kidding me? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, high schoolers are all about cliques and always will be
>>61069746
sure, except now they all dress the same and listen to the same music. there used to be different styles.
>>61069797
sure, except high schoolers are all about cliques and always will be. They all have different styles
>>61065170
worst retort my god
>>61069966
you already said that. and no they dont. ive worked at many different highschools. theres maybe 2 different kinds of groups? when before there were like 4 or 5.
>>61070075
I can also provide anecdotal evidence.
>currently 19, almost 20
>finished high school almost 9 months ago because I'm a burnout
>there were still jocks , emos , nerds, druggies, skaters, gangsters and sometimes sub divisions of these groups according to race
>they still had their own slightly unique taste in music.
granted, some groups taste in music could be similar to others, but there were significant differences. I was able to hop around to about 3 different groups, probably like most people, so this is how I know that .
Its a fucking pop song, you don't need to break your mental dick trying to understand whether you like it or don't, you just either do and want to hear it again or don't and don't want to fucking hear it again.
>>61070035
le wrong retort generator
>>61069287
>ya how about you go do or say something original and think for yourself for once. dumb fucks.
>>61064946
It's a good song. Don't you like it?
>>61070420
Now if only we could get the media to classify drake as pop
>>61064946
It's the song of the year. Haters are shook.
>>61064946
2015 is the year of the white guilt meme. You will praise with ceaseless adulation anything that is released by a black artist or you will suffer social ostracism. Hotline Bling is basically the apex of the meme, where the perpetrators of the meme are deliberately pushing the boundaries in a challenge to see if anyone will come out and admit that the emperor has no clothes.
>>61070339
there are no scene emos anymore stop lying to yourself unless you live in 2007 somehow. and the druggers skaters gangsters all dress the same now. stop lying to yourself kid.
>>61070472
>replying in a meme
my point exactly
>>61069393
I'm so sorry.
Stop getting lost in the hype. Every big hit song is said by people at the time to be the biggest song ever, and then half of them forget about the song in a year's time. Remember Uptown Funk? I don't.
It's a fun track m8
its no different when daft punks get lucky was spammed
like the beat, makes me think I'm on some caribbean holiday
everything else i don't care for
I like it because it really is the "I don't give a fuck anymore, I'm just going to dance and not give a fuck if people laugh."
It's the song you would play in your room and dance to, while nobody is watching. It's comforting like that. And in a year with terrorist attacks, shitty politics and all the racial shit, Drake had the balls to re-release a fun version of Marvin's Room, and make people forget about all that shit.
>>61064946
It's different
Different things are cool
But it's way too dumb and uninteresting to do it in any way than the laziest way possible
Welcome to music. It will be like this forever.
>>61072600
>like the beat, makes me think I'm on some caribbean holiday
Have you never heard the sound of steel drums before?
>>61072783
>I'm just going to dance and not give a fuck if people laugh
oh please, it was obviously intentionally bad so that it would achieve the meme status that it has

It's funny that the people who disagree are just trying to look like normies because they pretty much all proved that they don't interact with people at all outside of the internet.
