To me it just doesn't sound good, the UK accent at that BPM just sounds weak and phony.
It's copying too much whats big in American hip hop at the time (this is the same problem with 90's UK hip hop not translating well for example)
What was good about grime, it evolved from something thats native to the UK (the instrumentals from garage and the MC's from Jungle)
Even though the tracks where low tech and slapped together, they sound completely unique and alien and hard, and while the MC's are the same bunch of low income inner city kids influenced by Americans rap and culture as those videos, their vocals have so much more fire and energy at
140bpm.
I won't deny that I'm chatting this off the top of my head and looking at it as a complete outsider, so fair enough if you are more into it.
But basically what I'm trying to say, is it just doesn't sound fresh.
