Last /trad/ thread for a while, probably.
>>
>>61026603
why, are you going having exams or going back home or something, or just TIRED OF IT ALL
>>
>>61026627
Just feels pointless when at most two or three other are posting in the thread, apart of me desperately bumping every hour or so.

Exams too, but that's not really related.
>>
>>61026642
i might try to keep it going a bit even if i probably can't make as dank op images as you
>>
>>61026663
>probably can't make as dank op images as you
You can do it, I believe in you!!
>>
>>61026674
I'll try.

I just put this on. Seems like the first two tracks are just recordings of goats and sheep walking around with bells around their necks.

Currently listening to this. It's decidedly modern music, but at least it has its roots in traditional music; rebetiko in particular. Seems a nice live recording of a collection of ballads. Shame I can't understand anything he says, as it's probably highly relevant what with him being a "social singer" and what have you.

Those are the best kind of albums. Same with Deben Bhattachya's recording of Bulgarian music.
>>
>>61026728
Yeah it certainly gets you in the mood.

Some very nice bouzouki (I assume) playing on this. The recordings in the UNESCO collection are always excellent.

Also first time I hear of the santuri, which is played on this album. Pretty obviously related to the Indian santoor, which I find interesting. Dem old trade routes, right? Does anyone know if similar instruments show up in Afghanistan, Iran, etc? I feel like I should know this already, but I don't.
>>
>>61027279
wiki says so, but there are no sources so who knows

"Similar musical instruments have been present since medieval times all over the world, including India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Armenia, Turkey, Iraq and Greece, China etc. The Indian santoor is wider, more rectangular and has more strings. Its corresponding mallets are also held differently played with a different technique. The Chinese yangqin and the Greek santouri also derived from the santur.[citation needed] The eastern Europe version of the santur called the cimballum which is much larger and chromatic is used as an accompanying instrument in gypsy music.[citation needed]"
>>
>>61027372
Oxford music confirms it
>Dulcimer of the Middle East, south-eastern Europe and South and East Asia. It is used in Iran, Iraq, India, Kashmir, Turkey, Greece, Armenia, China and Tibet.
>>
Anyone know of any recordings in the style of pre-colonial Mesoamerican music?

This might be what you're looking for? Of course, as far as I know they didn't have any written tradition of music, so these are all modern performances which can be influenced by any number of things, especially prone to interference as it is orally transmitted.

Listening to this now on Spotify. Seems really good so far.

Well as far as I know some shahs were very fond of the Hindustani musicians and invited them to play in their courts.

Also I did notice that a lot of turkish instruments are praised/utilized in the balkans. My Serbian friend is trying to acquire a kaval and the best ones seem to be made in Turkey.
>>
>>61026694
Wow, this fourth track really sounds like gamelan music. That's amazing.
>>
>>61027186
Overall this album was really good and different from what I expected. I expected rebetika, but instead got some awesome drum and chant and bells much like what you'd find in Albania. Good stuff.

I'm about to listen to this, kinda afraid it won't be very good, but maybe it will.

as i feared this is mostly modern renditions of traditional tunes, played with modern instruments and played like popular music
>>
>>61029672
Shame, I hate those kinds of recordings.
>>
>>61030802
Yeah, they're usually really bad. It seems kinda hard to find any decent Slovenian albums. Are there anyone on what?

Thanks for the downloads.
Also in Macedonia only MRT had good recordings of traditional music that they don't release on proper format because of retard people in charge.
Which is really sad.
You guys should look into Synthesis they are great.

Just google-synthesis macedonian band-

It seems like the Radio Slovenia is this Ocora release, so it's probably good stuff.

OP do you think making trad threads focused in a region is a good idea? maybe if it was a general we could get more sharing and discussion going.
Just my opinion. Thank you for these threads, one of the very few that are worthy in the whole board.

This is my only album from one of those countries: Slovenia.

Compe - Compe (2004)
>Slovenian Folk. Accordions, Saxophones, really fun music.

lel

It doesn't matter how it's done, people aren't interested. I've tried general threads, and now I've tried regional threads.
>>
>>61033783
People can talk about whatever trad they want (it used to be in the op as well), but i personally like the regional themes.
>>
>>61026408
might I suggest as a potential contribution to /trad/ stuff (w. a particular emphasis on Romania, granted) the work of Constantin Brailoiu? stuff he collected from all over the world up until the mid 50s is now on Spotify (no dl links that I know of, bruvs)
