what does /mu/ think of this album?
>>
I didn't really care for Freddie Gibbs on this album. Madlib's jazzy/trippy beats were p. tight.

Second best album of 2014
>>

what?
>>
>>61014335

Overrated.
>>
Madlib was on point as always - to me he was the star. The Real and Uno beats are especially fantastic.

Freddie held his own alright, but I just wish he had a bit more personality and variance in his delivery. I've seen a few videos of him live and he goes off about ten times harder in them. Pretty impressive as MC's don't really do much for me live.

Didn't Channel Orange come out in 2012?
>>
>>61014335

I found it pretty disappointing. there EP's together are better.

also Gibbs's new album is straight ass.
>>
>>61014335
madlib was great although a few of the beats at the later half of the album were quite boring.
freddie was boring and repetitive.
>>
>>61014831
You have to respect this song though.

I'm high as shit and I found this pic on my hard drive. I have no clue how I made that assumption.
>>
>>61014869
yeah, because black thought is a 10/10 rapper who can carry any song he's on.

>cook a meal clean then she suck me like a vacuum

My favorite rap album this decade tied with Undun.

Thought is my favorite rapper of all time

>legendary

it hasn't even been out 2 fucking years. let the new car smell wear off before you start calling shit legendary. that's some straight millennial type faggotry

>These are the people that listen to hiphop

It's better than Madvillany

God-tier
>>
>>61016199
I've often thought this, cursing myself for thinking such blasphemy, but it's kinda true
>>
>>61016023
The lyrics are all the same anyways, so it's pointless to listen to them. Production takes more skill anyway.

Subjects for every rap song in existence
>money
>bitches
>the struggle
>drugs
>west side
>>
>>61014913
>carry
>Gangster Gibbs
>>
>>61016278
Very few good current rappers rap about the "west side"
>>
>>61016317
OK, but everything else listed there is the subject of every rap song.
>>
>>61016392
Yeah but it proves nothing about the value of the genre, punk was amazing and they always sung about the same shit, you could easily reduce the subject matter of most genres to a few key phrases, it doesnt mean anything. As long as its cool and new and raw and the kids are into it, then its good IMO.
>>
>>61016278
you forgot:

>whether or not the inventor of college attended college
>>
>>61016392
There's more to the appeal than the face value of the words
>>
>>61016434
Agreed. This is why I listen mostly to the instrumentals and usually ignore lyrics.

Link below is a rap song that doesn't talk about the same old shit and made me tune in to the words said.

>>
>>61016531
Like what? What a rapper actually says compared to the underlying meaning it has?
>>
>>61016566
Idk, I more just meant that I think those lyrics are good and that, for me, it doesnt detract from them that they tend to deal with the same stuff. People deal with the same subjects better and better every year. But yeah, blacker the berrys good, just not any better than Flockaveli 1.5 (for example) in my opinion
>>
>>61016599
Delivery and the feeling it creates in the listener. People like the bravado and aggression
>>
>>61016638
I think I'm starting to understand what you're saying?

Link below wasn't enjoyable for me until your post.

>>61016705
Not my favorite song, but the concepts the same. The lyrics are dumb and over the top but that caricature is sometimes half the fun since most people don't get to act like that in their every day life
>>
>>61016921
>TRRRAAAAAASSSSHH
>WAAAAAANNNGGG

damn...
delivery is on point mang

best hip-hop album of the 2010's
>>
>>61018121
>implying
>>
>>61014335
I like it. There's some filler, but when it's good, it's really good. I love the 70s funk samples as beats combined with the super gangsta shit from Gibbs
>>
>>61014389
I have a copy of the instrumentals and its great
>>
great album, would be better without some the fucking horrible features i.e. ab soul & mac miller
>>
>>61016199
I actually kinda agree, I feel a couple of years down the line it will be a much less controversial statement.
