Headphone General - /hg/

What do you guys think of these Grados?

I've had the ATH-meme50s for like 5 years now and am looking for something different. Also have no idea where to look in terms of upgrading
>>
unfortunately I can't help you out buddy, but I will bump with a request of my own: some good headphones for recording? Obviously closed-back to prevent sound bleeding but not deceivingly bassy like most closed-backs are
Cheers
>>
>>61009575
All good dude. Speaking of the ath-m50s... they actually sound great for what you are trying to do.
>>
>>61009606
thanks a lot I'll look into them. They look really cool, I'll give em that. What's the sound like?
>>
I have the meme40Xs, and they work fine but I want something better for $150 or so.
I ask for:
>Closed
>Flat sound
>Comfortable
>Great for music production
I have thought about the Seinheiser HD 580s for a bit.
>>
>>61009498
I have the mem50's and a pair of Sr80's I got in 2013.

To be honest, there isn't much of a difference.

The Grados have a bit better soundstage and their treble shines through very nice. They are cheaper than the meme50's.

I use the mem50's more because they are close backed. I can use them and not drive my girlfriend crazy cause she can hear my music. And they are comfier. The bass is a bit heavy for my taste.

The grados bass are a bit low for my taste. Going from the Grados to the ATH was like holy fucking bass. But now it seems more normal and less of a difference.

Versatility and bass = ATH

Better soundstage and treble with the tradeoff low bass end and sound leakage = Grado

Check out HeadFi for some reviews on good headphones. They recently did a 2015 buyers guide. Some people on HeadFi know their shit.

these have been industry standard for decades and are apparently good for hearing small details. I haven't used them myself though
>>
>>61009575
I second this >>61009606

I've owned them for 18 months and have done lots of recording with them. Yes, they are slightly bass heavy but for tracking it doesn't make a huge difference if you have decent monitors to mix with. Any small difference created by the headphones can be offset with some good EQ chops.

They are solid for the price and come with some extra cables for both on the go listening and sitting at a desk recording.
>>
All Grados are a poor buy and bad headphones

>>61009687
head fi is a terrible place for reviews and i can tell you've been influenced by them
>>
>>61009678
>Closed
>HD 580s
Why do they have to be closed, anyway? Open sounds better.
>>
>>61009797
> head fi is a terrible place for reviews and i can tell you've been influenced by them

learn to read.

> some reviews are good

> some people on HeadFi

Not everybody there knows what they are talking about, just like you clearly don't know what you are talking about.

Grado is a decent buy for like $100. If you are just chilling at home listening to them they are a fine purchase.
>>
>>61009797
Oh really, what are good headphones then and what exactly is wrong with Grado?
>>
>>61009498
I have these and I like em a lot
>>
>>61009866
no, grados are terrible headphones with frequency terrible response and comfort. literally the engineering of a laymen put into practice. you're an idiot for recommending them

>>61009877
>Grado have terrible pads that they charge $10- 50 for
>Grados use the same drivers throughout their models
>Grado have an inaccurate frequency response
>Grado uses hotglue to keep their shit together
>grado can't have sub bass so they increase mid bass
>Grado have highs that focus on sensitive parts of your hearing. it be easier to damage your ears with grado headphones
>Grado's best model is the sr60 and even that is pathetic compared to a $10 pair of in ears.
>>
>>61009985
lets chillout dude

thanks for the info

if you r an expert rec me an upgrade from meme50s.
>>
>>61009985
>Grado have highs that focus on sensitive parts of your hearing. it be easier to damage your ears with grado headphones

That has to be the most retarded thing I've ever heard.

Basically you are saying high end Grados are shit which I can agree with. There are better headphones on the market at that price.

>Grado's best model is the sr60 and even that is pathetic compared to a $10 pair of in ears.

You are an idiot.

Try to be helpful and recommend a decent pair of headphone in the SR60 price range instead.
>>
>>61009498
anyone recommend me some good headphones for around $80? Mainly going to use them plugged into amp for guitar practice, so i'd like them to keep sound quality when loud get.
>>
>>61010012
meme40. but you probably want something different. i personally think the m50 is a good place to be, and you haven't really given any information on what you don't like about the m50 which could be addressed
>>

>>61010096
purely looking to mix it up.

put velour pads on the 50s, realized a made a dumb choice and then said fuck it maybe I should try something new
>>
>>61010081
nope, grado headphones often have a treble peak of +5 - 9 db at 2khz. that will give you a headache.

many cheap in ears don't subject you to that torture and they have bass
>>
>>61010178
>that will give you a headache.
no, it won't.

I've put plenty of hours into a pair of sr80's and they have never given me a headache and I wouldn't call it torture.

Stop trying to talk about things you don't understand.
>>
>>61010249
But I do understand.

Enough of your Stockholm syndrome/buyers remorse, shill

Grados are pure shit through and through

>>61010172
If your looking for a cheap mix up then grab some sony mdr v6 or 7056
>>
>>61010342
will check them out. thanks for the recs m80.
>>
>>61010342
what are the pros and cons between mdr v6 and 7056? arent they essentially the same headphones?
>>
I don't need headphones, they disappoint me
>>
>>61010475
They used to be different but I'm not sure how much. the 7056 came out as a evolution of the v6 with a new neodymium magnet. Now they both have neodymium magnets. Grab the cheap one
>>
>>61010125
>>61010135
thanks friends
>>
>>61010172
Just get Fidelio X2s or Sennheiser HD600/650.

Maybe a little too expensive but you won't be looking to upgrade for a long ass time, if ever.

You're only really looking at planar headphones after that.

>>
>>61009498

I thought the MDR 7506's were the standard.
They're what the uni radio uses

I have pic related. Dont know about the SR80 but I love my set of Grados. The sr80 are really well regarded for their price point. You should also check out the ATH-AD700X, the AD700 were my first open headphones and I loved them, I've read the 700X has a larger sound stage while the SR80 has stronger clarity. You wont make a mistake buying either one.

I just picked up a pair of Mrspeakers Alpha Dogs, and I'm gonna buy a Schiit Magni/Modi stack this week. expecting great things.

also, I have grado sr60s and to be honest, I hate them. maybe just not my sound. but I do have the AKG K167 which are tiesto branded (lol) but I love their sound.
