Actually totally overrated. Unlike, say, MBV, Slowdive's music sounds really dated. Not necessarily a bad thing but it doesn't really have that timeless quality required to be considered great music. Their music feels generally overproduced and sterile with too many digital effects. Their albums just don't feel as natural and organic as MBV's Loveless where the majority of effects were created by techniques such as multiple mic placement and unconventional guitar playing styles.
I don't think Slowdive are a bad band, I just don't think their music holds up today as well as some of their contemporaries and just wasn't that unique. Nothing they released will ever stand up to Loveless which marked a sea change in music.

Pygmalion still sounds timeless. Also, a lush production and sterile sound isn't always a bad thing. Not all albums are meant to have a organic sound.
