So, I just listened to the whole album Metridium Field after seeing it talked about in the previous thread. That was fucking spectacular. I've never been so carried away by a long song before as I was by the title track.

What next?

How much do you actually know, RNG?

Like, how big is your collection? Artists and Album count that are metal related.
>>
>>60949492

That first album will always be 10/10. The second album is also wonderful. It's a bit weird in some parts, but it has so many great and classic songs on it as well, such as "Learn From This Mistake," "Landing On The Mountains of Megiddo," "Dog Tired," and "Where I'm Going."

Honestly I think Phil's voice goes perfect with an acoustic guitar. He's a Delta New Orleans Blues type of guy, and he belongs on a Delta blues record before he leaves to the ethereal realms.

The third album had some weak spots, but "Nothing In Return" was not one of them. Honestly one of the greatest songs of their career. There were other crushers on this one as well. "3 Suns And 1 Star" and Ice Cream were great. More of that dirty blues fused with punk rock.

IV was another outstanding album.

The band is weird without Kirk, but I think they'll pull through if they do another album.

I really just want to see Phil do a pure blues album though, maybe with Pepper, or by himself.

my collection is huge since i compulsively download, but how much do i really know? there's a lot of bands i have passing familiarity with but few i really know inside and out. i don't hold a candle to people who've been in the scene longer and have a social network of metal fans helping them to dig deeper into one area.
>>
>>60954291
Also we get shit on for shows. We've got a few good ones coming up and some great ones just past, but every time I see excellent bands skip by this shithole, I want to slit my own throat.

Gosh, some times I feel dwarfed by you, and if you yourself feel that way, I really don't know that much at all.

Eh, I'll go back to posturing anyway since it gives some semblance of meaning to my life.
>>
>>60954246

Legitimate CDs? Maybe 250 albums or so, plus a bunch of splits and compilations. Not too many artists I've got more than a couple albums from and a lot of one-offs.

You can probably add half-again in artists that I absorbed when I was a constant downloader but never had the opportunity (or, more likely, money) to purchase afterwards.

I've been drifting in and out of the metal scene for years picking up cheap shit here and there. I'm such a total tightarse that I've got way more 'underground' stuff than mainstream metal just because I can pick those up for like $10 per CD from local mail-order (well, net-order nowadays) outlets and I always end up springing for everything that looks remotely interesting in their catalogue because, hey, cheap CDs.

The GF has actually contributed a fair number of the more mainstream CDs as well.

What about listening to Sleep, does listening to Sleep cure cancer patients?
>>
>>60954150
https://zafakon.bandcamp.com/album/release
>>
>>60954899
yes but you still increase your risk of lung/throat/mouth cancer by smoking. Using a water pipe actually filters out about 90% of heavy carcinogens and ash being inhaled, so its easy to say its safer than cigarettes (or a joint for that matter) but its still an increased risk

Even vaping apparently still presents a risk.

The only "Safe" way to consume THC by these standards is to eat it. But everyone knows that most heavy cigarette smokers often will develop other problems unrelated to cancer by the time they are forced to quit.

you shouldn't listen to any type of music just because its labeled for a certain state of mind.

That's almost the same mindset as stoners that only listen to pink floyd because they think it goes together like apples/oranges. I'm not saying pink floyd isn't good when stoned, because it is, but honestly I think most people would be better off listening to what they're actually in the mood for and not what some faceless opinion tells them they should listen to.

Some of the best music ever made was made by stoners and psychoactive hippies, and may not even fit into stereotypical realms of "stoner music"

Then why did you buy the shirt? Do you think random strangers are going to comment on it and think positively of you? If you don't have any friends, then I'm guessing you don't get out much. So you basically bought a shirt with a very specific design that nobody except complete strangers are going to see when you occasionally decide to leave your house. Nice. And since you don't leave the house much I'm guessing you don't take much care of your physical appearance, meaning that the shirt won't even look good on you in the first place.

Who was the weirdest metalhead you met in your life? I met this guy who dug a grave in his basement and slept in it, not to be edgy the dude was 40 years old, but to remember death and practice death everyday so he is always ready for it. He had many other weird habits he was also a very good painter and an engineer. I couldnt comprehend any of it since i was 16 at the time but later on i got into mysticism and gnostic knowledge i could understand what it all meant. Ill never forget that guy he was somehow a mentor to me.

Hi there!
You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!
Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bait to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

true but the production it's so honest to good abysmal it's actually hard to understand what the fuck is going on at any given moment

the music itself was pretty simple since Carcass were more or less amateurs at the time of recording, but if they recorded it now it would probably be a serviceable grind record (it's still more notable for it's influence than anything though)

I dream of so much beauty in this world every night. I dream of fields of flowers and blue skies. Clouds that happily glide through the air and tree that sway in the breeze, all under one bright golden sun to warm the land. I dream of the overwhelming beauty of the natural world as it embraces us all as children of this earth. Everything seems just right, everyone is happy with just the simplest things. In my dreams I'm an artist and I paint the beautiful scenery around me. I work slow not just because I want to get it right, but because I become transfixed by the behaviour of objects of the natural world. Every flower has its own personality, its own behaviour for it is an individual just like every one of us. I try hard to capture the essence of this individualism in nature. Pure bliss engulfs me as I interact with this world of beauty in my dreams. But then I wake up, and I'm suddenly ripped from a world so pure. I instantly feel a great deal of sadness when I realise I must confront a world full of so much sickness. So much hatred and malevolence. I want to run back to the world in my dreams, but it is not possible. I must wait until my pillow invites me back to sleep, it's tender embrace taking me back to my world of dreams again. A world in which time is absent, yet its existence is temporary. It's there that I feel at peace and truly happy. I never want to leave that world, for its beauty has seduced me for as long as I live.

For Morbid Angel, I tried Altars of Madness and Covenant. All the songs sounded the same to me and I hated the vocals. Maybe because I'm not used to it?

For Slayer, I tried Reign in Blood. I liked Angel of Death, Piece by Piece, and Raining Blood, but didn't like the rest of it so much.

Maybe I just don't have it in me to be too brutal :(

>>
>>60962047
i was actually going to recommend that you at least listen to altars of madness and covenant before dismissing morbid angel. if you're interested in trying to get into death metal then maybe check out these >>60962081 and necroticism and heartwork by carcass

and a lot of people seem to dislike reign in blood. you'll probably like show no mercy, it sounds pretty similar to early iron maiden/metallica. you should also check out hell awaits too, though it's closer in terms of sound to reign in blood
>>
>>60962088

Oh wow, a metric ton of recs. Thanks, listening to all of these for sure.

>>
>>60964770
Eeeeehhhhh... I'm not really an EP person. But the ones I did hear, I'd prefer the albums. But I guess Human Jerky isn't too bad.

>>60964773
It's like a combo of Humanure and KBK. Production kinda sucks but the writing itself is good.

>>60964821
Nothing wrong with stuff that appeals to you. Blast the fuck out of Harvest Floor until your windows break if you want to.

i haven't asked for recs in a while which is really stupid so i just got this thought in my mind: Is there anything as metal plunderphonics?

like an album (of any genre) that uses samples of other metal albums to make it's own songs, the Endtroducing of metal if you will

this ring a bell to any possible plunderphonics fans here?

I got into metal from punk via the Melvins. Since then, I've essentially only listened to sludge metal, though I have heard some of the more well-known stuff from outside of sludge (Sabbath, Judas Priest, early Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, that kind of shit).

If you could help me figure out what other metal I might like, I'd appreciate it.

I'm interested in:

>more dissonant, noisy stuff, like Boris but faster/shit you can rock out to
>something like sludge in the kind of driving feel, but a bit happier... like Harmonicraft but less poppy?

Bonus shit I just think would be fun:
>anything (good) with lyrics about pirates that isn't musically similar to "pirate metal"
>anything (good) with lyrics about Robin Hood
>>
>>60967554
>with it if they had any arguments
You can't make an argument for "Objectively good".

I mean, you can objectively assess skill to a certain degree, sure, but even then, there is the case of albums emotionally resonating with you that aren't necessarily the most well performed instances, or don't take much skill to do.

So even then, Technicality =/= quality, it just means it's a relatively difficult thing to do, or that it conforms to the standards of one particular criteria.
>>
>>60967633
i know, when i mean "Objectively good" i mean something relating to how the music is composed and the like, things that probably don't even go through their heads

most of these faggots just shit on genres they don't like for either a reaction or to boost their fractured ego for a couple minutes before they go back to crying because of tfw no gf
>>
>>60967696
Kek

>when i mean "Objectively good" i mean something relating to how the music is composed

Like what scale is use? A musical piece having more musical phrases in one song-part than another, or perhaps it being composed in a modulation between two different scales as opposed to one, wouldn't say anything qualitatively...? Explain.
>>
>>60967696
>there is objectively good composition

i didn't say that though, nor do i believe it, i said that the people who believe there is such a thing as objective quality would say something along those lines

>>60967741
no, it wouldn't say anything objectively, i don't believe music is objective
ask these people
>>
>>60967811
>i don't believe music is objective

So Music doesn't exist external to the human mind?

How does the 'musical experience' happen then? Why do you feel emotions when you put on your favorite albums?
>>
>>60967811
>Never happens though

Usually because people who have enough of an intellect and sophisticated perspective to understand music compositionally are philosophically savvy to know better.
>>
>>60967845
because i think the album is good, nothing objective about that
>>
>>60967934
Technically, there's different neurons that fire when you think something is good as opposed to when something is shit.
>>
>>60967845
>So Music doesn't exist external to the human mind?
woah, you're getting way out of what i meant to say, jesus christ anon are you baked?

>How does the 'musical experience' happen then?

i can only say it only happens if someone is truly into music as a whole, be it just one genre or whatever, that person has to actually be in it

reason why the average person or someone who listens to music for the image/any other purpose than the music himself doesn't ever have a musical experience

>Why do you feel emotions when you put on your favorite albums?

probably what we relate it too, i'm able to create images in my brain for any album, the imagery is just created
i'd say it's how we relate to the music, i relate to Death Grips because i'm very paranoid and i relate to Midnight Odyssey because i identify with Pater's lyrics and the extremely spacey music makes me imagine i'm lost in space

i'd say this one would actually go down more to biology than philosophy though

>>60967904
goes without saying, most people here don't really care for either thing
>>
>>60967954
And those neuro-chemical reactions happen at different contexts and different instances for each singular person.

>implying conformity = objective
No, History has shown that's bullshit in many different cases, and anyway, that doesn't rule out the possibility that it is still completely subjective.

You said:
>>i don't believe music is objective
I took Objective to mean:
>Mind-indepedent; What properties of an object exist outside of the arbitration of different human minds
So that means:
>>i don't believe music is exists outside of the human mind.

Which I agree with. "music" is simply meaningless patterns of sound which our own brains process like we do with language, and somewhere in the processing, we react and create meanings.

yeah i meant music quality, such as retards going ''genre i like is objectively better than genre i dislike)

>"music" is simply meaningless patterns of sound which our own brains process like we do with language, and somewhere in the processing, we react and create meanings.
i agree with this too though, i mean look at birds, their chirping sound beautiful to a lot of people (myself included) but they really aren't trying to make music

music, it's funny, is literally all a meme
>>
>>60967989
