i like pic related a lot, a bit too long though

Perturbator's work is very varied between albums and that warrants respect i believe

I love how well they nailed retro on this one, it's like watching an 80s movie, those synths with that funky beat

>>60904805
Perturbator is awesome indeed. Quality work after quality work.

Check out "adrenaline" from that album too, it's awesome.

HIGHLY underrated album right here:
Xander Harris - Urban Gothic.

Horror synth is the best form of retrowave.

I was watching Tales from the Dark Side movie and the soundtrack was like half of this.

>implying there's a problem with that
we're making those romanticized 80s right now, bud. There's even the threat of a world war, just like in the 80s.

>>60908850
it's not, besides, retrowave isn't just nostalgia. It's quality music that happens to evoke the 80s.
And synthwave (the old one) couldn't be defined as nostalgic because there wasn't anything similar to it before.

holy shit haha. pot calling the kettle black

i like both synthwave and vaporwave, but you gotta admit theyre both really derivative and dont take themselves too seriously
>>
>>60910714
Retrowave sometimes has a tongue-in-cheek nature but it's not designed to be musically ironic, it's just about letting nostalgia take control, but it's not supposed to be shitty. And sometimes it even takes itself seriously.
I'd compare the less "serious" synthwave artists to Immortal in the black metal scene. They do lots of tongue-in-cheek, over the top stuff, but the musical quality doesn't suffer because of it.

honestly, what's the appeal with this shit? there's not a single track that does anything new, it's literally trying to do nothing but recycle what people were doing 30 years ago because of some pseudo nostalgia. why do people think this is good?

at least electroclash tried new things. synthwave is just fucking pitiful nostalgia music for /v/ to pretend to have a musical palette

the modern drum beats tend to be way more aggressive, bassy and compressed, unlike their original 80s counterparts. Besides, they aren't doing covers, so they aren't really "recycle what people were doing 30 years ago".

>pseudo nostalgia
>pseudo
They are our 80s and we want them back, m8. If the fashion world, the instrument design world (pic related) and the car design world get to do that kind of stuff, why can't the music production world do it too?

>honestly, what's the appeal with this shit?
pop music took a nosedive in the 90s and has not yet recovered, in fact the nosedive continues. This appeals to people who were either young in the 80s and miss that stuff or people that didn't live that era but were exposed to the awesome music by their parents, by watching films and shows from that era, by videogames (GTA Vice City, Hotline Miami, Burnout Paradise) or by modern films with a retro aesthetic like Drive or Kung Fury. In my case it was a mix of most of the above except for modern films (I got into modern retro films after I got into synthwave). I've been a 80s junkie since at least 2003 because of Vice City. That game greatly influenced my tastes, it was also my path to heavy metal and hard rock.
I was also always a fan of Retro (now TCM). That's how I started watching stuff like Miami Vice, Knight Rider and other things. That's also how I knew the two Coreys. And with it came the music. You can reject the modern shit too if you want to, anon.

List of based retro films I've watched and which helped shape my /mu/ tastes:

>The Godfather saga
>Terminator
>Carlito's Way
>To Live and Die in LA
>The 'burbs (incredibly underrated)
>Scarface
>Commando
>Rambo saga
>Death Wish saga
>Thief
>The Driver
>Blade Runner
>Rocky saga
>Mad Max saga
>Die Hard saga
>Full Metal Jacket
>Batman
>Back to the Future saga
>The Untouchables
>Lethal Weapon
>Top Gun
>Red Heat
>Dirty Harry saga

There are some 70s movies in the sagas mentioned above, but in this case I'm referring only to the movies launched in the 80s. The ones from the 70s are great too but they clearly have nothing to do with synthwave.

I forgot Cobra, I can't believe it. That soundtrack was great.

LISTEN TO THOSE DRUM MACHINES
God, I love 80s music.
>>
>>60914696
>>60914788
For further illustration, I started listening to retrowave by listening to Lazerhawk on youtube, then I found New Retro Wave and Luigi Donnatello, then found Perturbator and Carpenter Brut, which led me to watching Fulci films (first I watched Murder Rock, which is on Le Perv's video, as I got hooked by the 80s aesthetic and after I found out it was an actual 80s movie, I watched it. I got hooked and ended up watching unrelated movies by Fulci and giallo in general, great stuff) and from there I got to Hotline Miami, from where I found more artists and the film Drive. It's really a vicious cycle, once you start it's a spiral of greatness of which you can't come out. Downloading Kung Fury right now.

BTW I forgot to mention all the Van Damme flicks earlier, notably No retreat no surrender. It was cheesy but greatly enjoyed.

it's not ironic, it's campy. Like retrowave itself. Kung Fury is also over-the-top and a bit cheesy though.

So are Kavinsky, Perturbator, and Lazerhawk the biggest Synth names?
