Thoughts on live albums? Do you like them or hate them? If you were to rank your favorite artist's top 10 album would live albums even count?

There's no reason to discount live albums. It's pure autism.
Some artists become completely different live and experiment more.

My favorite band is Nirvana and I wouldn't even count the non-studio albums in a best of Nirvana list. Why? Kurt was a genius and it's best to hear him in studio/demo. Plus all their live albums are essential, so think they are different animals

>Kurt was a genius
There's no reason not to listen to live albums.

Public Castration is one of their best albums desu senpai
Live albums for plebs who have ignored them for some retarded reason:
The Who - Live at Leeds
James Brown - Love Power Peace
John McLaughlin etc. - Friday Night in San Francisco
Phish - 1995/12/31 Madison Square Garden
Most Prince bootlegs
Literally everything live by Jimi Hendrix is infinitely better than his studio stuff.

Neil MOTHER FUCKING Young. Not only was his best album live with the audience edited out, but most of his live albums are GOAT. So yeah a Top 10 list without any live Neil is a no go for me.
>>60889170
Studio albums are most like what the artist wanted OP, why bother with live albums? The crowd gets in the way plus the musicians can't perfect things.
>>60889680
Literal autism.

>implying Kurt wasn't a genius
He was The Beatles all by himself with just bass, drums, and powerchords. Sounds like a genius to me.
A lot of the greatest performances in recorded music were live ones.
"Artists intent" doesn't matter, sounding good does.

He was a talentless degenerate drug addict who popularized being a lazy idiot and made depression fashionable.
You will realize this when you turn 16.
>>60889170
It really depends on the artist. Sometimes live albums can be vastly superior to the studio recordings, like pic related.
Post artists who's live material also makes up some of their best.
>>60890375
the Rolling Thunder Revue live album is pretty godlike
>>60890349
Does that have anything to do with his music? You'll realize that it doesn't when you turn into a real man (with body hair).
>>60890615
His music is terrible too.
So obvious I didn't even feel I needed to mention that.
Honestly the Lou Reed discography is patchy at best but this is a great album and even the VU had great live albums (1969, live at max's)
>>60890752
i definitely meant to post this one.
>>60890634
Nah, you straight up forgot. You don't gots to lie.
>>60890752
That album cover is trash.
>>60889680
>Studio albums are most like what the artist wanted
not necessarily
They're just nice for fans of the artist, I wouldn't rank any live albums very highly in an artists discography though.
>>60892598
That thing is practically a bootleg!
>>60889170
Live albums are great love em.
>>60890752
one time my crazy ex got mad at me because of that album cover
