Reposting from the last thread.

I'm pretty black metal ignorant, but does anyone know any bands similar to Lengsel's first album? The guitar work is pretty intricate and well thought out and the bass actually provides some good harmony. Here's a song for reference.

Look up dope smoker on bandcamp. Their 2 newer albums are "pick your price". Check them out, even if not a pothead. Singers got an ozzy sounding thing going on. Then click the genre tags at the bottom. Try "stoner rock" or "psychedelic" or something. You'll find some cool shit. I waste so much time doing that

Whether you like it or not, Altars is one of the most influential albums in death metal. I think that warrants the spot.

Nice argument, with all those points and facts. However, that's subjective too.

because comparing a seminal album to whatever you personally like is in the genre is the same as comparing some modern pop singer who is more or less forgotten by now (like most pop singers) to a seminal composer, right?

Slipknot as a whole is better than people think they are. Fuck, some tracks are heavier than a lott of bands now who try to push themselves into sub-genres. It's most mostly the image and the general sound. The image, ironically enough also helps make some of the music scarier through initial anonymity.

Also the best track was cut off of the album:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNxw5QbRpwM
>>
>>60887717
the whole style of convoluted palm-mute riffs alternating with high-string work is pretty recent. i'd say it's a combination of suffocation influence and mathcore influence. if you listen to Unique Leader stuff, yeah, you'll hear a lot of bands like that (though Gorod, the best UL band imo, don't do that much)

Start with earlier bands like Nocturnus, Atheist, Atrocity, Violent Dirge, as well as modern artists like Anata and Orgone, and you'll get a different picture.

I feel like labeling something nu metal was a good way of telling people not to enjoy it. People don't like to admit it, but a lot of nu metal is pretty diverse. Like, your vid related sounds nothing like anything Korn or Limp Bizkit or Deftones could make. When you get passed the (very) occasional rapping Slipknot did, you just got a very angsty alt metal band.

I don't shoehorn my pet bands into every recommendation because I'm trying to make my recommendations fit what's being asked for, and I don't want to make people less interested in something by shilling it to death like FIFH does.

Though, I did have a dream that Unexpect had a restaurant and Gordon Ramsay gave it a positive review. Then I got there and it turned out they were serving human meat. It was pretty fucked. Their decor was super cool though.

But yeah there's a lot of variety in tech death so pardon me if I suggest something that isn't SOP or Origin-esque. Though, if he likes SOP, Anata are one of my first suggestions, along with Formless and Deeds of Flesh.

first album: neoclassical power metal (with harsh vocals)
second two albums: neoclassical melodic death metal
Hatecrew Deathroll and AYDY?: melodeath
Blooddrunk and Relentless Reckless Forever: absolute trash who cares what genre it is
Halo of Blood: Melodeath with actually some black metal influences
I worship Chaos: thrashy melodeath

If this was released back in 2010 I'd be all over it.

Vola have similar production despite being much poppier, which I always thought was kinda weird

if it counts for anything, christian alvestam is/was one of the best vocalists in metal.
>>
>>60890094
>tfw it took 2 vocalists to replace him in Scar Symmetry
>>
>>60890051
It's good, fitting production so it doesn't bother me. Vola are going for the dreamier end of pop (as I've said, Mew are a big influence) after all, it makes more sense than the brash electropop production you'd get from some djent/electronic band like A.I.(d) or The Algorithm
>>
>>60890037
The clean vocals are boyband tier, the singers are technically great, but they just don't fit the music
It's literally power metal with growls

>>60890094
Shame he is in Solution 45 now, their new album sucks
>>
>>60890106
Have they actually said Mew is an influence? If so that's actually pretty interesting. Also Vola and Uneven Stucture both use POD's so that could also explain the similarities
>>
>>60890106
>>60890144
I saw several reviewers compare them, but that might be mainly because they are both Danish
>>
>>60890117
Always thought Alvestam did sound a bit poppy. But he was open with saying that's how he got so good.
I actually prefer Lars' singing just because of that reason.
>>

>Nicolai: I think Meshuggah and Mew are the two bands who have influenced me the most making this record. I really like the way Mew can make catchy choruses without sounding corny and predictable. No need to explain for the Meshuggah influence.
>>
>melodeath talk

I honestly thought Fiction was better than Character, which was slightly weaker than Damage Done

But I am a huge DT fanboy, I admitted they are my all time favourite metal band a few threads back

Also Insanity's Crescendo and Mundane and the Magic are probably the best metal tracks with female vocals

>>60890302

the vocals, tempo and chugging reminded me of Februus but just less catchy
>>
>>60890286
yeah, it's just the tone that bothers me
it's too low and flat to mesh well with the synths or to resonate with me emotionally

granted, my taste is pretty specific
if there are clean vocals in metalcore or djent I want them to always be boipussy vocals
>>
>>60890362
Yeah, same here. I know they're keys on the original track, but I think they sound better here. The song doesn't sound better, but that particular part of it does.
