What's his best song?
Are You The One That I've Been Waiting For
the witness song
or maybe tupelo
I think all his stuff with The Birthday Party is the best, even though it's mostly self-loathing and heroin-fueled nonsense.

Thanks for reminding me of this song.
I always disregard Murer's Ballads.
But this song...

how can you disregard stagger lee, henry lee, where the wild roses grow, the curse of millhaven...

It might be his best though. Certainly some of his best writing. Push the Sky Away is really an underrated album desu

I think Murder Ballads is definitely one of his weakest albums. There's some great stuff there, and on the whole it's well-executed but it strikes me as mostly thin novelty. I've never liked it much.

It was my favorite Cave's album when I was 16. I'm 30 now and kind of grew out of it / got bored of them.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great album as most of his are but it has this entry-level feel which I can't just explain.

that's interesting, murder ballads isn't my favorite of his but it's been a grower for me. i had to acclimate myself to his earlier stuff before i could appreciate it

I think the feeling you get with murder ballads is because of the character Nick Cave plays during the songs. Many of his songs are kinda written as a character, but the murder ballads character seems kinda like an obvious, mustache-twirling villain as opposed to the more realistic, sinister characters in albums like Let Love In and Tender Prey. It's like a cartoon villain v.s. a real villain. Doesn't make murder ballads bad, it just feels less believable.

wow. yes to every word here
Nick is a lovable psycho. His interviews are always a good read.

I have bandmates that can't get talked into liking one of Cave's album better than Murder Ballads. My favorites are Let Love In and No More Shall We Part, depending on the mood.

This and dig Lazarus Dig are probably the most underrated
>>60868229
Gotta agree on Dig Lazarus Dig, it just gets hate because it sounds like more traditional post-punk
