Pretentious is not synonymous with bad, nor are you required to think a piece of art is bad when recognizing it's pretentious. Pretentious is defined as anything that is created with the pretense of creating a specific reaction. Kid A is pretentious because it wasn't made completely out of inspiration of sound but rather to break free of the mold of The Bends and OK Computer. A lot of the sounds on Kid A are created to shock listeners expecting OK Computer.
