Why are people who listen exclusively to the best albums of a genre considered "casuals?" Why is it necessary to listen to shit in order to become a "hardcore fan?"
>>
Albums have to be discovered before they become "the best".

I hate when people spout memes like 'entry level' but did you really just type that

Hahaha who fuckin says?
>>
because you look like someone who just listens to what ever is thrown at you as the "best of..." who doesnt actually attempt to develop their own taste and isnt interested in discovering new music

because there's no context to understand what makes them the "best" which means that the greatness goes unappreciated. it's the reason that people nowadays have such little appreciation for classical art, because by only seeing the masterpieces, the "best" pieces of artwork become divorced from the idea of creating artwork with your own bare hands and failing.

Because that's what a "casual" is. I hate when people act as if listening to the essentials and entry-level stuff of a genre is a plebeian act, but listening to that stuff exclusively, that's what makes you a casual/pleb.

There's good stuff in any genre other than the "essentials" and the entry-level albums. Often the entry-level, most well known stuff isn't even the best. Some people take the time to delve into a genre and discover good stuff, some of which is as good or better than the really well known, "essential" albums. Others can't be bothered so they just listen to the most well-known ones and what people tell them is the best and nothing else and they get called "casuals" because, well, that's what they are.

going by your logic, if an album isn't the best then it's shit?

If you're not supposed to be influenced by other people's opinions, why does it matter what you look like to other people?
>>
Just because something's critically acclaimed doesn't mean you personally will enjoy it as much or more than other things in the genre. If you like jazz, it's only natural that you'll listen to lots of it. The beauty of getting into a genre is appreciating all sorts of music that came from it, not just the Kind of Blues and the Maiden Voyages

fashion is a considerable more visible thing to people, many people can see what you are wearing and make quick decisions about you based on what you look like from far away. it is something that is just there for people to observe but people generally dont do the same with music tastes, if they want to know that they would have to go up to you and ask you
>>
How can you call yourself a hardcore fan if you don't even care about hearing more?
