Eh, bit of a let down. 'Bottom Of The Bottom' off Lil Herb's new mixtape was a stronger track than that entire mixtape put together, but his mixtape was slightly lacking overall though.

gonna be honest, this felt like the album equivalent of a wet fart.
They went and built up so much energy with those hype tracks at the start (the first four, specifically), and then it just died out after Friday, and never got traction back.

>>60750727
>Seriously it's your favourite?
yeah. why don't you like it?
>>60750789
It's just a very lukewarm effort.
And frankly it's completely banal compared to a lot of what is happening in hip hop right now.
When it comes to putting out new and game-changing LPs grime artists have a lot of catching up to do. Feel free to prove me wrong (I wouldn't say no to a good rec or two) but I very much doubt that you're going to be showing me anything special from this year if that is the best foot you can put forward.
And I'm not an American so don't be throwing any corny excuses like " you just don't get it" at me. I don't want to hate grime, but when it comes to LPs that push experimentation it is lacking. Facts.
>>60750914
well first of all you didn't make a single legitimate critique in that entire post. i asked what you don't like about it.
second of all
>it's completely banal compared to a lot of what is happening in hip hop right now.
you can't say something like this without backing it up. how is it banal? as opposed to what?
it's a beautifully produced record. every beat hits hard as hell (without relying on the dishearteningly overused trap cliches). the lyrics mean nothing, but the majority of rap lyrics mean nothing. his flow is tight as hell. no loosy goosy lazy flow. that shit cracks like a whip. everything is clean and calculated
>>60741267
Drill Time was better than everything in this thread
>>60750975
>you didn't make a single legitimate critique in that entire post. i asked what you don't like about it.
It was a brief post, sure, but I very obviously critiqued it:
It is emblematic of a sub-genre that is stagnant and boring compared to its American equivalent. How is this not a critique?
And I think it's amusing that you think yourself in a position to comment on the quality of a critique when you are throwing out complete gems of critical thinking like "no loosy goosy lazy flow".
He can't come close to the lyrical ability of Lupe, he can't come close to the flow of Thugga, if you were to try then to disregard all that and instead try to pitch him as a more staid and tradition technician in his craft then he doesn't come close to Freddie Gibbs either.
And that isn't even addressing the uninspired song-writing itself. Nothing going on structurally that is new or interesting. Nothing in the way of novel or interesting beats. Nothing.
What this man does is done elsewhere and better again and again. By examples cited in this very same thread no less. He is a bore.
>>60751106
>the lyrical ability of Lupe
this is the biggest myth of 2015

>>60751106
american hip hop culture today is absolute dogshit. it's where corporate interest is and this becomes extremely obvious when you look at the trash that's being praised like drake, future, lupe and young thug. even kendrick is overhyped commercialist trash. he did a song with taylor swift ffs. american hip hop culture has become a hollow shell of it's former self. it's all about selling out and making money. and since p4k praises it you guys all pretend to love it. it's really sickening.
the key to good hip hop today isn't to pretend to be a thug like the OGs while you're signed to virgin records stacking millions and letting corporate businessmen write your music for you. the key is to be progressive and to try to do something different with the same formula.
dean blunt hit the nail right on the head here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyzE5QH_x2I
>>60760309
the commercial popularity of american hip hop culture is also why you see white pop artists appropriating black hip hop culture as well. it's because it's what sells. and you assholes are all falling for it
>inb4 but conscious hip hop is making statements against appropriating black culture.
it's still rappers like kendrick who are rich off their asses pretending to be gangsters
TPAB, but pic related is climbing the ranks
