Generic in what respect? Its sense of climax and abrasion are fairly unassuming at first impression from a compositional standpoint. Lots of respect for novelty, repression, and ultimate satisfaction between the small little textures that show up and the big, melodic tonal harmonies.

It's not fair because they're the only two first wave bands still around. They've had upwards of twenty years to refine their songwriting and composition abilities as a band. It's uneven playing ground.
