And no, it's not that AnCo fans are terrible, it's that /mu/ is terrible. /mu/ is literally just /v/ for music at this point, and /v/'s mentality of hating everything for the sake of quasi-elitism is the cancer of the internet.
Kinda shit. Sad about t. Saw that deakin wasn't a part of it and got excited. Sigh. Some centipede songs were great, so I'm sure some will be on this record...but this is the first single as well as the album opener? Shit

I was at home back in February when I heard atom dance for the first time.
>>60711633
>Literally doesn't like the song to seem cool
Yeah I am the one making Animal Collective look dumb
I really don't care for songs that reach a certain *point* in the first chorus and just don't expand after that. like it's fine to do verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus, that's totally fine, but when there's no building of dynamics through the song it just gets kinda dull.
even Fireworks has a change in Avey's inflection, Floridada just kinda loops
>>60711598
Holy shit. Is this what the AnCo fanbase has become? Lmao. What a joke. Go suck Noah's dick for releasing that mediocre pile of trash that was PBMTGR.

You all are so nasty in here. Chill out.
I think the song is great. The little interview in Rolling Stone definitely has me excited. They called it their Beatles-y record, everything upfront, no sounds buried in reverb. These guys always surprise me.
I also am very interested in the Dada/cubest/surrealist influence, especially as the press materials seem to indicate that AnCo are focusing on the intersection between human experience and artistic creation as a theme. They've never gone quite so "meta" before, art qua art. Excited to see what it brings up. It seems like a maturation akin to the Dadaists themselves, who turned their lenses back on themselves and their creations in the later years.
>HEY GUYS YOU KNOW WHATD BE FUNNY?
>IF WE- IF WE MADE A SONG THAT SOUNDS LIKE A BEACH BOYS RIPOFF. BUT INSTEAD WE SANG ABOUT FLORIDA INSTEAD OF CALIFORNIA!
>ALSO THE SONG SUCKS! HAHAHAHAHA ITS GENIUS!
>>60711895
The song isn't about Florida you mongoloid
The chorus execution is not incredible, but it's super catchy and the bridge part after the Wipe Out laugh is brilliant. I'm enjoying everything but the shitty synths that accompany the chorus, but I can see this work very well as the upbeat opener to a Fall Be Kind type of album. The song reminds me of FBK the most anyway, with some Sung Tongs like vocal harmonies around the melody.

>>60711846
>there no strong melody or chord progression or anything ie bad song writing
It's not about the melody or the progression. AnCo has always been about creating grooves or jams that make you wish they went on for hours.
>i find the production annoying
I feel the same way about AnCo's earliest stuff, which is some of the worst use of lo-fi sound that i've ever heard. A lot of people feel that way about their most polished work, which i feel fits their sound a lot more. STGSTV, for example, would be a GOAT album if it had MPP's production. The production might be the most consistently polarizing aspect of their sound regardless of their era, so i guess this is fitting.
>the lyrics are ridiculous
So are most AnCo lyrics.
>harmonies cant carry a song
Thankfully they don't.
>song of the year
Not when Hotline Bling exists.
>>60712247
Hotline Bling is legitimately more of a meme than a song at this point.
bits of it aren't shit, but most of it is really really shit
rip anco
The hook on this track is so infectious. Sounds like they really took on that sound on PBVSGR and added Avey and Geo's touch. Added some incredible vocal harmonies (Avey and Panda were great on this track) and added some Panda Bear style percussion. I love the song, definitely is different for them.

Bad chorus but I like the verses and as always, anco has god tier bridge. Regardless, this is a really disappointing opener/first single
>>60713019
Nah
>>60713034
Explain why you like it, it's always only scrutinizing opinions against but never opinions for it.
>>60713067
The way the opening back and forth builds a sense of tension which the pre-chorus releases magnificently with Avey & Panda bouncing off each other playfully until the chorus hits and that synth tears shit apart while Avey plants the Floridada ear worm in your brain. Plus that bridge does its job of building the song back up for that final Floridada hit after it cuts out for a second or two.
It's pretty great in my opinion anon. Hope you understand why I like it.

It's no My Girls or Peacebone, but it certainly is better than LELELELELE.
The chorus being the worst part (it's a clutter mess) is a weakness that happens all too often in Avery Tare lead songs.

>>60715555

>>60713871
It sounds like Panda's low register. Pretty sure it's him.
"Comeback Deakin. We're sorry!"
- AnCo, after this washed out disaster of an album
>>60715267
Why, because people are circle jerking it over there? I enjoy the song, but there is nothing wrong with hearing other people's views on a track, despite how stupid they can come off. There is no one or right way to view art or a song and i'm betting AnCo themselves reject formalism in this way and want people to judge and regard the album/song based on how they personally respond to it. That is, in fact, one of the main aspects of Dadaism.
>>60714166
If it had more interesting lyrics I would say it's on par with most stuff from MPP and SJ. I don't hate them, but I hope the other stuff has heavier themes, this is fine but a little trite. Liking the song a lot.
I'm digging it, I love poppy happy sounding stuff like this
>>60714808
I think if you dropped it into a spectrometer you could see that it's empirically warmer than CHz.

I'm still on the fence about the pre-order. link to any of the bathroom leaks?
FUCK. I want to love Flori Dada, but it sounds too much like Centipede HZ. It doesn't capture the organized chaos of their pre-MPP shit nor the expertly crafted layered pop of MPP. Maybe it's a grower.
>>60716725
Give it a few chances and listen to the accompanying instrumentals. It's pretty good imo. It sounds like CHz with better production and more pointed songwriting.
Woah I really like the song. This is really a great look for them. I'm pumped for the direction of the album being their shortest while also the longest track list, the lack of reverb and over production. Really hoping for good things. Shocked when I saw how short the songs all are. Also, I personally believe the album is meant to be referred to as "Painting With Animal Collective", which is hilarious.
Some thoughts on FloriDada-
The vocal interaction between Panda and Avey and the propulsion of the song sort of remind me of Who Could Win a Rabbit, not in sound necessarily but in feeling
I love the sound of it. Its production isn't flat and heavy like Hz, and it's synths and all that are nice and well rounded.
The drums in the start reminded me a little bit of the drums that start Peacebone, doesn't seem like a coincidence to invoke one of their best opening tracks on another opener. Saw another anon compare it to summertime clothes, which I totally agree with. The vibe and pep of it are very similar, but I personally like this song better than summertime clothes, which I think is one of the most overrated AC tracks by far, but that's just a personal opinion that I know not many share.
it's gonna be good buddies
>>60716789
I'm super excited that Painting With will be poppy though. Centipede HZ had some upbeat songs but felt too much like a jumbled mess of ideas to give you consistent good vibes.

>band releases a cute fun single with cool pop vocal melodies
That's exactly the point, fuck cool pop vocal melodies. There's enough of that shit out there. AnCo was always unique because they were more than just "cool pop" type songs. They made interesting songs that weren't merely just a catchy melody and a slick generic production. Just listen to Strawberry Jam compared to this. So much passion in their playing and interesting, unique creative arrangements. New song sounds like Nikki Minaj compared to SJ.
Anyway, stop getting so fucking buttmad. Everyone has a right to their opinion and anyway a lot of people don't like new AnCo at first. Their music grows on you over time.

>>60717993
Whats with the hate on Todays Supernatural? At least it had a trippy arrangement and not a production that doesn't remind you of fucking Bananaphone for chrissakes. This new song is god awful.
>>60710928
>Where were you when the song of the year came out?
I was at the Christmas Tree Shop picking up some holiday decorations, specifically one of those motion activated birds that sing to you as you walk by. An employee was helping me find it when all of a sudden I got a message from the YouTube app saying that Animal Collective uploaded a new video. I didn't have my earbuds with me but that didn't stop me from listening to it, I walked away from the employee mid-sentence while blasting it through my phone. I still feel bad about it, she was taking a while to find it.
On a positive note, the song playing through my phone activated one of the birds on the display shelf to start singing. Without Animal Collective, I wouldn't have this holiday decoration for my family to enjoy.

the ONE time he sang the song with no dynamic and with almost total indifference was of course on the actual studio version and i'll never know why. but it makes it a slog to listen to, especially since the instrumentation is rather static. it needed that deak energy.
Moonjock, Applesauce and New Town Burnout are the best tracks on CHZ. I don't see how this is even controversial.
am i the only one who didn't like the songle?
>>60720080
pulleys is underrated. imo it's one of the few songs with tension.
>>60719764
Pulleys is way worse than Todays Supernatural. Father Time and Monkey Riches are also weak
>>60720080
mercury man is good too. imo father time, monkey riches and pulleys are total shit.
>>60720148
Have you even read one comment anywhere on the Internet?
>>60720148
No you're not, it sucks..
All of the songs on chz were bad because they were drowned in pointless sound effects and radio static
>>60720124
I don't think anyone is debating that. It's a worst song competition going on.
>>60720172
>>60720198
Do you feel if they replaced Father Time and Monkey Riches with Crimson and Honeycomb, it would be better?
>>60720249
They were bad because of the production yeah, but saying it's pointless is getting to be a meme, bruv.
Avey and Geo were just going overboard with the aesthetic. The production works very well with Moonjock.
>>60720259
holy shit yes. 10x better. and pulleys with gotham? honestly it would be 9.5/10
>>60720259
Yep I definitely like Crimson and Honeycomb better
>>60720080
it seems everyone hates differant songs on this album
i like them all desu
pulleys and applesauce are some of aveys strongest song writing
>>60720259
Not either of them, but fuck no
Why are people hating on anything from CHz except TS? Any weakness from the others is held together by general cohesion with the rest of the album
The versions of Today's Supernatural and Mercury Man on the Pitchfork Festival bootleg were so much better than the album versions. The rawness of their performance really fit well with those songs. I don't understand why they fucked up the production of the album so badly.

There's just nothing going on on some of these songs. It's a really uninteresting groove with an uninteresting melody. Whats the hook on Father Time? "LONG TIME AGO!!!" that's the only fucking hook. Same with Monkey Riches, just nothing of substance going on at all. At least Honeycomb is catchy as mother fuck, and crimson has a good atmosphere going.
>>60720249
the interludes between songs are perfect they use them really well there
>>60720347
>needing a hook
How did you ever get through Feels?
>>60720390
Feels has hella hooks brah, they're just not accompanied by lyrics.
>>60720390
I love Feels because the production and atmosphere is interesting and awesome. What is interesting about "Father Time"? There's just nothing of substance going on. I'm not saying it needs a hook, but there's NOTHING to it at all
>>60720307
Probably because Today's Supernatural isn't actually bad.
The reason Father Time, Mercury Man, and Monkey Riches are the weakest tracks on the album, is because they're all high energy tracks in the middle of the album.
Look at the last three albums. The latter half of each album has slower songs that allow for tension, cooldown, and buildup, with just the right amount of high energy to maintain momentum.
But CHz is too manic. The first five songs are done right, boosting right off into being upbeat, with Wide-Eyed slowing down but maintaining intensity. Father Time suddenly ratchets that up. New Town Burnout is properly paced and spaced on the album, allowing for a breather, but Monkey Riches and Mercury Man just crank it back up again. The reason a lot of people value Pulleys and Amanita is because the album is finally toning it down, just in time to end.
If Crimson took the place of either Father Time or Monkey Riches, the album would flow much better.
Where can I see the lyrics?

>>60721853
I've been thinking that for a while now. They just feel like a more abrasive and experimental vampire weekend. I mean, recently theyre songwriting has been extremely similar. Summertimes clothes and white sky (2nd song of contra, cant remember if thats the actual name) and in the flowers and hannah hunt are really similar in song writing and vibe desu

People don't actually hate AnCo, they're just pretending
All posts are bait
All posts are trolls
And there's no way to beat them. Quality is no longer an issue. If they post anything, they've achieved what they set out to do. Which, truthfully, is absolutely meaningless, but hey, they did it. When was the last time you did something you wanted to do?
If you read a post, you've lost. If you come on this board, this site, on your computer, out of bed, you've lost. Kill yourself.

>New song sounds like Nikki Minaj compared to SJ.
SJ is literally their most traditionally poppy album.
>>60720150
Completely agree. It has an idea and it sticks with it and builds upon it throughout the track. Plus it has weird time signature shenanigans. The most underrated song from CHz, would easily take it over any song from the rest of the album. Honeycomb/Gotham and Crimson were great too.
>those vocal play-offs between Avey and Panda
>>60727150
I'd say MPP is their most traditionally poppy album. SJ only has a few poppy type songs like "Peacebone" or "For Reverend Green" but then there's weirder stuff like "#1" or "Kekoo Kekoo"
>>60727222
that's what made the song for me, not really impressed by the instrumentation
I rate the song "okay/10"
>>60719968
damn..
I wonder if this song will be a hit? Not that far from being pretty commercial, has a catchy melody too
Great call and response vocals, lyrics are fun, chill atmosphere, and the bridge about the bridge is great as well. Production feels a tad bit muddy but feels good to hear some new AnCo. Not their best by a long shot though, lot of people are overhyping it
Anyone else intensely enjoying Floridada? If the rest of the album is as good, we have AOTY on our hands
>>60722498
Animal Collective x Vampire Weekend when
>>60727235
#1, while being a totally weirdo pop song, is still poppy. It has a simple verse melody, and a simple chorus melody, that they bounce back and forth between, and it's all on the I and the V. The whole thing is a series of cadences with a catchy melody, the only thing not poppy about it is that it's noisy. Kekoo Kekoo I'll give you, but everything is in the major key, with simple chord progressions, maybe a few weird rhythms but all of them are floor heavy, and all of them have verse chorus sections. Great album, but I think it's the closest they ever got to The Beatles, until now maybe. MPP had odd time signatures, unpredictable structures, less predictable chord progressions, high concept songs like Guys Eyes, etc. It's definitely their danciest album, but I do think SJ fits the more traditional pop template.
>>60715988
:-]

then
:O
>>60727343
I was very confused by it at first but I gave it a few more listens on headphones and it is pretty damn good.. Kinda reminds me of a mix of MPP (summertime clothes and taste or something like that) and SJ (peacebone, winter wonderland). At first the production really turned me off but I guess like all Anco, more listens are good.
>>60727347
I guess you're right, you do make a good argument there. Sung Tongs is my favorite but SJ is my second favorite. They did do an amazing job with mixing pop song melodies/structures and weird, experimental production, definitely. I guess MPP is not really as accessible and straight up poppy as people think it is, but I guess it's merely just a development of that formula.
Which if you think about it, I guess it makes sense how CHZ and the new song are the way they are, as further development of the pop structures and weirdness, tribal rhythms, noise, strange background vocals etc.. Never thought I'd see SJ as a pop album but I totally do now.
>>60712350
I really wanted to appreciate this comment but then you called people retards for having different opinions than you.
>avey and panda duo vocals
>no effects on avey's voice
>electronic sung tongs, even starts off the album like leaf house
I am so ready
>>60717628
But it's not traditional at all lmao. The whole song has a jiving swing rhythm, harmonizing goodness and frenetic, psychedelic synths.

The art on the link isn't the cover art. The cover art is actually pretty and interesting.
i bought the album but myanimalhome is pretty shit so it didnt give me a dl. Any preorder bros got a link?
read somewhere they totally ditched ambient interludes. hate to be a downer but they cannot stand on melodies and magic-eye production alone. the reason hollinndagain, HCTI, feels, and campfire songs are good is bc they let the songs breathe. i know they're founded basically on never staying in one spot for too long, but fuck, they need drone in the formula.
essentially: buhhhh make music i like instead of following your creative vision buhhhhhh
>>60727721
The album isn't out yet bro, you won't get it until late feb. unless there's a leak. It's a PREorder.
>>60727791
no i meant a DL of Floridada
floridada is an pretty awful song
>>60727788
Yeah they def needed to scale their sound back and let their songs breathe. Definitely the problem with these newer Anco songs. It feels like they keep trying to outdo themselves with how much shit they can cram into the production, which is totally unnecessary.
I guess the Anco we love pre-Feels is gone for good.
>>60727814
put the Floridada youtube link into http://listentoyoutube.com
DL and enjoy
>>60727788
I'm fine with them keeping it less ambient as long as the songwriting, performance, and production are all on point, which it sounds like they might have pulled off. SJ wasn't ambient compared to a lot of their earlier stuff. I definitely don't have anything against ambiance, and I think it's helped make them who they are, but I'm not going to say it's necessary to their quality.
>>60727868
>I guess the Anco we love pre-Feels is gone for good.

I seriously think that's Geo singing the third line of the brigde
>>60727936
same
>>60727936
It's Panda, I don't know where the fuck you people are coming from, but just because he's not singing in his upper register as usual doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to recognize him.
>>60727885
true. my friend literally came at me with the same SJ argument and i still have no counterpoint to it. i just feel they won't have a #1 or Chores outro on the album and it'll suffer as a result. i'm mad online.
anyone else kinda miffed the synths are all like exactly on the same level as the vocals and percussion. there's a ton of interesting shit (ratchets, probably harp/reversed harp, cool synth voices) that i'm missing out on/have to dig deeper on louder volumes with headphones to hear? let geo have his time in the limelight bois, damn. the song is good though. it's stuck the fuck in my head. best part is the second bar of verse where noah comes in, in case you cared
>>60727969
it just sounds like him desu. have you seen interviews where geo talks?
I don't understand why they're talking about ditching ambiance like its a new thing. Its not like CHz had any
>>60727978
I feel like there was still more space on SJ than CHZ or this new song though. It didn't feel cramped up the ass with all kinds of sounds that you can't even make out and it just felt right. You're also right that some songs did have ambiance on SJ, which even if its a few songs, still SJ had a ton more variety. Hopefully the rest of the new album has some of those sounds. Guess we can't judge by one song.
And to answer your question, i listened on headphones and it's just hard to hear of whats going on imo. Same problem as CHZ, but it is still a good song. Very catchy and more sunny and brighter than CHZ which I appreciate a lot
But where's the Deak?
>>60728035
It's a mystery why Deak keeps disappearing on certain albums. Don't think anyone knows why he's not on this one.
>>60728055
maybe we can see his solo album finaly :^)
>>60728012
ITS NOT HIM, ITS FUCKING PANDA OH MY FUCK

all of this shit talk on Father Time...jesus christ. That song is a nautical banger.
>>60728170
fucking thank you!
>>60727978
It's pretty early to say that there won't be any songs with outros, I'd be surprised if it was that cut and dry. Either way, it's not like those outros are what made SJ what it is, they fit the songs they fit, but like I said if the songwriting is there I'm not going to complain. They'll probably go more ambient as a reaction to this album on the next one, so of all my concerns that's not a big one for me.
>>60728031
I think you're just making way too many assumptions about the album as a whole based only on the opening single. The talk from people that have heard it is that this is the poppiest track, and it's still interesting enough for multiple listens. Listen to it a few more times, I have no problem separating the layers at all.
Now THIS is a song that Animal Collective should have did more of on CHZ and hopefully on the new album. Trippy disorienting production done very well, randomly changing structures, prob a different time signature in there as well.. All the other stuff is generic pop structures in comparison
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rafY_lAqqfw
Honeycomb is also badass
It's definitely Panda I have no idea what you guys are smoking
He often sounds like that live.
>>60728181
it's a crime that this wasn't on the album
>>60728180
Oh I know, I'm optimistic the new album would be good. I was more talking about my hangups with CHZ mostly. I just can't get into that album nearly as much as anything that came before. It's good but doesn't impress me.
Floridada at least reminds me of MPP so I think the new album will be really interesting.
>>60728018
They said ambiance AND long intros and outros which CHz had plenty of. They're just getting straight to the point with they tracks
>>60728181
>this didn't get in the album
>pulleys did
>>60728181
"I'm sorry i cut you with my knife"
Such an awesome line.
CHz is probably the least cohesive of their albums but it has some really great tracks. New Town Burnout is Panda at his best.
>>60728035
Is deak a drug addict?
>>60728180
Read the rolling stone piece, those anons aren't making assumptions
>>60728231
Pulleys is one of the few on the album that has an identity. It's got a few odd time signature flourishes, and it sticks with a single idea instead of jumping around between fragments of songs that don't belong together.
>>60728263
That depends on what you mean by cohesive. It definitely has a sonic direction consistent throughout, but the songwriting is the disjointed messy part.
>>60728793
I know they said short songs with no bullshit, but I'm not even sure I would consider #1's outro particularly ambient. I'm sure they would say the same thing about the process for SJ.
>>60729044
I'm listening to CHZ right now. There are a few weak songs but I don't think the songwriting is the disjointed part. It's just that the production feels lifeless and dull. It is strange because there's so much going on in the mix, but yet nothing exactly pops out as anything but a muddy mess except on a few songs.
Moonjock, New Town Burnout, Amanita and others are great though
>>60729228
I just think there are too many times where they paste a random part that they don't explore, and is basically just a one off idea for a couple measures that serves as what I guess they thought was a chaotic energy.
