Muse is a lot of bad things but not a meme band. A meme band has to be way more famous and praised to death by the internet or a part of it.

Notice the texture. It sounds full: every instrument have its place without being annoying. Notice how everything is connected: how everything builds up and falls together. Notice the variation of rythym in every instrument. Notice how the song doesn't overextend: when the content is over, the song is over.
You can apply this kind of argument to every song. The genre does not matter: it is, generally, good, bad or bland.

Let's take Ladytron for example. Just the simple fact that they sound like a mix of Kraftwerk - MBV - Curve - Lush - ABBA - Francoise Hardy - Wire - The Human League - Depeche Mode - Roxy Music - Stereolab is enough to label them as great.
Add also the god-tier melodies (listen to Seventeen as an example), basslines, drumbeats, production, effects, lyrics, artwork, image, everything.
Add the variety of their music helped by the fact that they have 2 different sounding vocalists (one of them being Bulgarian). Gorgeous vocalists, too.
Add the fact that they remixed a lot of great artists (Dave Gahan, Blondie, Goldfrapp, NIN, Apoptygma Berzerk, Soulwax, etc).
Add the fact that they're appreciated by Trent Reznor, Brian Eno, Chvrches, Tegan and Sara, Depeche Mode, Lush, etc.
Add the fact that they took their name from a Roxy Music song.
Add the fact that they always perform live with hardware synths (lots of them), plus bass, guitar and drums. How many electronic bands do you know that are like that?
