Is there an artist from last 5-10 years whose breakthrough album isn't their debut album?
Pic related. Michael Jackson's first albums were just a shitty continuation of The Jackson 5 without the other 4, and he didn't get his defining sound until Off the Wall. There seem to be plenty examples of this throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s but very few examples in the 2000s and 2010s where everyone is earning their hype right off the bat.
