I absolutely love the mellow ritualistic sound of this album, what do you guys think? Also, similar albums?

Yes, this is an incredible album.
No, there is nothing like it.

Damn it.

you might want to try out this
>>
>>60640142

I've already listened to that one. I also liked it a lot.

Is this the only Ulver album like that? I tried some more and they are straight up black metal.
>>
>>60640159
Later Ulver is more along the lines of SOTS but nothing is really actually similar to it.
>>
>>60640218

Gotcha.

OP here, what do you guys think about Earth's later albums? They are kinda similar to Om in tone, no?
>>
>>60640070
Coming from a huge doom fan, this is my least favourite OM album. Try listening to Pilgrimage or Variations on a Theme.

Giant Squid
>>
>>60640256

I thought Variations on a Theme was a little tiring personally, but I also didn't enjoy Earth 2, which people seem to like here. Pilgrimage was good, if I recall correctly. What didn't you like about Advaitic Songs?
>>
>>60640279
I still like it, but it's a little too same-y and less heavy than their previous albums.
>>
>>60640313

I see, I guess I'm after the more mellow, relaxed sound right now, not that I don't enjoy heavier albums from time to time.

I have absolutely no idea what this is. I see a swastika, what's that all about?

Its legit NSBM.

they played in paris last sunday
was pretty dope

>I have absolutely no idea what this is. I see a swastika, what's that all about?
It's being used in a traditional hindu context senpai
>>
>>60641485
>>60641499

Those two are conflicting statements. Either way, I don't have to agree with the artists' beliefs to enjoy their music, I'll take a look.
>>
>>60641499
No, they're legit neo Nazis.

at least the clarity was good except for al's weird vocals

Apparently so.

But they're making another Sleep album at the moment.

Who cares what the artist views or even what their message is? Varg is okay.
>>
>>60640256
I disagree, I think their use of less directly heavy instrumentation and focus on a heavy atmosphere worked out really well. It's just such a unique album. Pilgrimage is my fav from them, though.

The swastika on the cover really isn't the problem. But it does make the problems the record has all the more ridiculous. It's clear they are trying to channel some form of romanticism, most likely Wagner (again, the cover says it all...), but they seem laughably ill-equipped to channel him. The first track, I (great titling), uses up its material within about the first three minutes. As more elements are layered on, you think that they might actually be building to something interesting, monumental - Wagner-like. But no, it just decays uneventfully back into the loop. Likely because they didn't know where to go from there. II is clearly going for Romantic tone as well but it seems to prove that chords aren't all you need. The synth sounds really sound inappropriate here too, making the supposedly "br00t@l" vocals and guitar appear kiddie. The whole album sounds something like "Fischer Price: My First Neo-Nazi Wagner Tribute" in its amateurity (not a word but I like it).

Except you know, literally the entire canon of hindu music it steals from?
>>
>>60640070
My nigger, this is one of my favorite albums. Let me recommend a few more that I enjoy. They don't really have that "ritualistic" quality, but they're mostly instrumental, and you might like them.
>Sunn O))) & Ulver- Terrestrials
>Wolves In The Throne Room- Celestite
>Ulver- Kveldssangar
>traditional hindu chanting
>Gregorian chanting

>>60642554
This album has Coptic Christian and Muslim chants as well. Not just Hindu.
>>
>>60642554
shut the fuck up, Al cisneros named his Rig after Swami Vivekenanda and has obviously been influenced heavily by Hinduistic themes, do you really think he was trying to appropriate with this album? Cant remember if my fav OM is Conference of the birds or Variations but im pretty sure its variations, Pilgrimage is great, everything OM does is great, but Pilgrimage is often seen as their best work when IMO, it's one of their weakest albums.
>>
>>60643159
sorry my favorite Om is God is Good.
>>
>>60643159
IMO everything is good but Conference of the Birds>rest just because At Giza

The ritualism isn't very much present, but it has reccuring themes reaching almost meditational qualities. Plus the drummer is from Slint and the guitarist is from Grails.

I saw them in Prague. They were great but the club chosen for the show wasn't suitable at all, they sold tickets over their capacity, half the people didn't see shit and soon it became unbreathable there. People fainted and shit.
