it's ogre
Now dads everywhere can learn about that hip new thing called "vaporwave"
>>60614216
so he got a job a RS then...
>>60614216
its just ambient music..... with a vaporwave cover
ffs biggest scam of the year
>>60614289
this
>>60614216
how do we actually stop dream catalogue?
>>60614251
agreed, this sucks
the magic of vaporwave was that albums were hidden pockets of old muzak in corners of the internet, waiting to be stumbled upon. that shit felt great.
making it popular is going to ruin all of that
dream catalogue don't have a fucking clue what vaporwave is about and i want to kick their teeth in
It bugs me so much that people associate their albums with vaporwave. Even the album art is only marginally related to the vaporwave aesthetic, and the music is just ambient. Both their albums are great, but it has nothing to do with vaporwave.
Also, I agree that I'd rather it not get popular. Keep the dadrock "wrong-generation" faggots away from my electronic ambient music, please.
https://youtu.be/pCiBleGkNyE
where did the good days go?, i still remember when this genre was just funk slowed down or revived city pop without pretentious ambient shit ;_;
>>60614289
>its just ambient music..... with a vaporwave cover
fucking this
there's nothing vaporwave about their album
shit, it's actually halfway enjoyable.
>>60614579
check out max headroom, he's still spinning city-pop tracks with his own flavor.
>>60614216
>A late night cruise through the cyber-future dream highway.
Dawww, babby Rolling Stone website made its first clichéd electronic music journalism phrasing.
>>60614338
>>60614318
>>60614432
It's okay we still have Giant Claw and shit like that.
>>60615380
we should make our own vaporwave shit
reddit aint got shit on us
i mean, they are the ones destroying the genre, while in /mu/ all the hype is gone.
>>60616514
It's like it often is with 4chan. We create stuff, and then we lose interest while the rest of the internet finds out about it and takes over.
>>60616791
we should try and make the second wave of vaporwave (huhgeddit?)
>>60617001
i recognize that furry porn :)
>>60617020
who doesn't
Vaporwave is now mainstream and all it had to do was be what it always should have been, ambient with a faggoty weeaboo aesthetic, instead of post-meme bullshit
I for one couldn't be happier. Probably gonna buy 2814's album on vinyl once I have the money
itt neets think they own a genre and get mad when other people do it better and even angrier when it draws attention
>>60617222
>mommy i said NEET like you told me to! do you think the cool kids will like me now?
>>60617260
my mom doesn't even know what neet means you n e e t
>>60617278
Using a word like neet on this website is like calling someone a nerd. It pretty much has no negative connotation.
>>60614289
Is it...........just.......me......or do elipse.............make anyone's post.....look.....................stupid.....??
>>60614432
>>60614338
HKE, the co-owner of Dream Catalogue has said mutiple times that he considers his music different from the genre but the umbrella term of vaporwave has come to define a scene more than a genre.
Some producers on DC like Chunking Mansions, Infinity Frequencies, Luxury Elite, General Translator have released the more traditional style.
But things do change, and the scene has become less mysterious and close-knit. People from the Fortune500 days have come and gone. Those that remain have kept with the times in the scene.
As much as people seem to rage about Birth of a new Day (the 2814 album), they have paid very little attention to the members solo discographies. Telepath has put out a shit ton of plunderphonic and original style vaporwave, muzak style, funk and ambient. But people like to cherry pick I guess.
anyone have /mu/ vaporwave recs?
>>60617376
No
Daniel Loppy made that chuck persons album for shits and giggles and that's what started vaporwave
It's a joke genre, has been from day one

>I'd rather it not get popular. Keep the dadrock "wrong-generation" faggots away from my electronic ambient music...
the fact that no one has ridiculed you for this statement is embarrassing.
>>60617450
>tfw purple is your favorite color but apparently that's common among loser shut-in faggots cause vaporwave's main color seems to be purple
>>60617450
this graphic is super outdated and has way too many low quality albums. it's not a good way to introduce people to the genre
>>60617504
>purple is his favorite color
>he thinks his opinion matters when his favorite color is always purple
>>60617505
>implying memewave have any defining albums to begin with
>>60617450
wait wtf? im listening to a few future funk artists atm and it sounds like french house music to me...
>>60617376
Sadly the majority of /mu/ know very little about the genre at present, as showcased here >>60617399
pic related is what I'm listening to atm. It's a free download, a side project of telepaths. a very relaxing listen, good to get into the feel of his work without having to jump right into his ridiculous amount of releases.
>>60617505
post an updated pic then. im new to this and have found alot of this music pretty good.
>>60617548
when did I say anything about albums defining genres. I said the graphic's bad and would benefit from less shit albums on it and more newer albums
>>60617548
>he thinks his opinion matters when his favorite color is always purple
Huh?
>>60617575
oh yeah it's called BLUE 光
might help
>>60617576
I don't have an updated pic, although I could recommend you some newer albums
>>60617575
I've been listening to this one lately, especially the first track. Telepath is amazing
WHAT if WE ALL make a fucking chart, a more, modern-ish, /mu/-ish CHART.
>>60617593
And vaporwave has always been shit. I just posted that link for that anon because he was asking for some /rec/
>>60617663
You're 5 years late faggot.
>>60617617
post em, mate. all that you recommend.
i'll be monitoring thread,
>>60617685
fuck off
>>60617650
I haven't listened to that yet. I bought all the virtualdreamplaza releases recently so I've been working my way through the 16+ hour monolith.
I can't stop listening to this one in particular.
>>60614432
>>60614338
You sound like black metal fans when deaf heaven released sunbather
>muh black metal is poplar now
>>60617730
I've listened to the first 18 and the 21st one when the dreamfm.biz link still worked. the second and fifth ones are my favorites
>>60617575
I'd recommend for all of you fags:
Max Headroom - Hanami (better than s/t desu senpai)
恐ろしいです Nights - Undersky Lights
∆CIDWATER - AVeryVaporChristmas
Paulene Hamasaki – Embrace
>>60617882
>恐ろしいです Nights - Undersky Lights
this shit is fucking recommended for a cold winter night, i mean, it's full of those vaporwave gimmicks but it also has some sad, sad songs.

alright. know that I typed this on my phone in case there's any terrible errors I didn't correct
Hong Kong Express - HK (totally originally composed ambient vaporwave, my favorite album of all time)
仮想夢プラザ - 仮想夢プラザ (vaporwave's greatest achievement overall, just look it up. mind blowing)
death's dynamic shroud.wmv - I'll Try Living Like This (some of the greatest plunderphonics ever, look up the video on the Dream Catalogue youtube channel)
AIR Japan - Summer of Love (best future funk album ever and it's only 10 minutes long. super dirty sound)
MK Ultra - In Limbo, Silent Dream (vaportrap album that samples from some zelda games. it's good)
Nmesh/Telepath - ロストエデンへのパス (split album, really dark and ambient)
Infinity Frequencies - Into the Light
Donovan Hikaru - Business Travel Bonanza (originally composed musak, completely sincere about it too)
there's more but it's really frustrating to type on my phone, anyone else have some good recent recommendations?

>>60618021

cba to make a chart, a little mix of styles, releases from 2013-2015
What a fag sellout
>>60618266
how the fuck do you come to that conclusion
>>60618004
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
Makes me wonder what kind of a subculture would have developed out of something like grunge if the internet we know today was around back then. The main problems I see with vaporwave and the vaporwave analogues are how inauthentic it feels and the overabundance of it.
Like just looking at this >>60617450 makes me feel like there is too much of this stuff out there. I guess that's not surprising because with the internet everyone is an artist, and with vaporwave its especially easy to be an artist. It seems like even if there are a few hidden gems they're buried so deep in the crowded scene that it's impossible to appreciate anything.
I guess it's not that different from how subcultures have always been. Going back to the grunge analogy, I assume there were a lot of terrible grunge bands out there that weren't remembered. The problem with the internet is not only that everything lacks impermanence but that that everything is available and stands on equal level with one another.
This is the end result of an economy of overabundance where the means of production are distributed to everyone even when they don't know how to properly produce anything and a culture that actively promotes an increased demand for these products.
Does anybody remember metro-ko? It's not as gimmicky as vaporwave, and more cyberpunk influenced, but some of it shares a lot of similarities with vaporwave.
This album was actually released before the metro-ko term was coined, but it fit the aesthetic perfectly, while also being fantastic. It's similar to Boards of Canada at times, but just a whole lot better.

>the fact that no one has ridiculed you for this statement is embarrassing.
the fact that no one has ridiculed you for this statement is embarrassing.
I wish vapormeme fags would die already.
>>60619797
When WAS the metro-ko term coined anyway?

November 2012
https://rbt.asia/mu/thread/S30223568#p30225418
The hype died down after a few months, but a lot of good stuff was produced in its name, both art and music. We made our own mini-label which has some of the early releases, a few of them being really great.
https://metrophone.bandcamp.com/
>>60620076
That description actually seems like the poster was describing specific aesthetics that already fall under the vaporwave umbrella don't you think? Probably why the hype died down, since hyper specific niches have a hard time generating much of a following.
>>60620224
Yeah, I reckon you're right. Which is why I'm posting about it here I guess. Just thought it was a neat thing that /mu/ did for once.
>>60619797
>>60620076
This some good shit desu senpai
bump senpai
>>60620688
It really is. It's sad how much their stuff has gone under the radar. All of York Morgan's stuff for instance is really high quality.
I want this ambient neon bullshit to die really bad. Fuck dream catalogue.
>>60614216
>2814
BOOOOOOOOO
>>60614289
this, it is good though
wau, real interested to know rolling stone's opinion on music in 2015 OP
>>60621895
I seriously doubt that's what the thread was made for. As you say, nobody cares about that - what's interesting is that such a big music-related site is picking up on something previously only considered very niche.
>>60617412
It's funny you're recommending Virtual dream Plaza because Virtual Dream Plaza = Telepath = half of 2814
>>60614289
And it's not good ambient music at that, just easily digestible
>>60617365
Stop shilling HKE you are a shit producer as well as a shitty writer lol
>>60618021
HKE your music is shit
