It's not all banter. A lot of the hate for rap is real and stems from the /pol/ contingent that has been plaguing all the media boards.
But it's also especially bad on /mu/ because this is a board full of young hipsters who only want to play pretend at being cultured. High art makes serious demands of you and it's a real no-bullshit grind. But after you have been investing serious time into exploring high art you can have fun with popular music and popular art with amused indifference because you know you can flex in areas where it matters. These kids love the word "patrician" more than the path itself. Just leave them to it and keep enjoying whatever resonates with you.
