>electronic is a genre

>>60539506
For a total beginner this would actually be okay.

>>60539633
Charts without the names of the albums are completely useless.

Only the Avalanches, Massive Attack and Portishead are good.

Not all electronic music is dance music that relies on eps and singles more than it does on albums. Even then there's a shitton of albums in the dance music realm.

We'll overlook how stupid it is to attempt to make an electronic music chart because I also agree that not everything electronic is dance music.

That aside, about half of the albums in dance music are just compilations of an artists 12 inch tracks. There are some which are made as dedicated albums but not loads. Also more importantly the best dance music things are still only ever 12" and EPs.

As a final note
>none of those charts have 4 Hero - Parallel Universes or Omni Trio - The Deepest Cut Vol. 1
What even is the point. They are shit for other reasons as well though.

If anyone wants to make a definitive chart you can steal any album that looks good from here

>''electronic''

I actually expected better of you Abelian.
>>
>>60542965
Yeah I'll admit it's a bit of a huge blanket term but there's no way to really reverse that
There's countless subgenres of electronic music in general, and honestly making a full-on essentials chart is difficult as all hell. I just thought I would pitch some good albums out there if anyone wanted to check out some lesser-discussed stuff
>>
>>60543008
Call it EDM next time.
>>
>>60539633
>nas, taylor swift, animal collective

crikey thats one hell of a shit you posted anon
>>
>>60542882
replace Frequencies with Advance
>>
>>60543039
Well EDM has kinda shifted in definition too
I can call it that, but many people would interpret it as "popular dance music", which while being most incorrect is still unfortunately the general perception
But I can call it EDM if you really want. You probably know the nomenclature more than I do
>>
>>60543008
Why do people say this when its not true.

Music under the umbrella of ''electronic music'' can be divided into the following....

Hip hop
Synthpop
Techno
House
Trance
Breakbeat
UKGarage
Downtempo
Ambient
Industrial
Electroacousmatic
Musique concrete

Thats less than rock alone, let alone the true equivalent being anything made with stringed instruments.

>>60543054
They all make music with electronic instrumentation.

>>
>>60543077
Can do. I just saw Frequencies as being the more popular choice, but if you say Advance would work better (it's the one I like more), than I shall do so by all means

>>60543087
You have a good point, but a lot of those are more sweeping genre labels too. Hip-hop, industrial, and electroacoustic especially have a lot of variants which could be argued warrant their own labels
Still, I guess it could be done
>>
>>60543087
Was genrefaggotry even a thing before the 2000's and the internet, and was it ever used by anyone besides critics? I find it hard to believe that any band back in the 90's would care if they were called "post-hardcore" or "screamo" or whatever.
>>
>>60543143
>someone disagrees with me

>>
>>60543156
They are the main genres, with their own subgenres.

Jesus, compare that to rock...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rock_genres
>>
>>60543156
Well, the point of your chart was to introduce people to some lesser-discussed stuff, right?
Frequencies is already on every essential "electronic" chart. It seems like it's the only LFO most people have listened to. 9 of my RYM friends have rated it, while none have rated Advance, in comparison.
>>
>>60543180
During the days of rave we used the umbrellas ''dance music'' and ''chillout'' but yeah, we still used techno, house, breaks, jungle etc

Even my old dear knows the difference between big beat and acid house.

Well I can hardly speak for any other country but, an old /mu/tant and member of B&B whose parents in America were ravers of their time said the same.
>>
>>60543367
Weird, I thought America was all about Electronica shizz in the 90s.
>>
>>60543253
Well, yeah. I claim to have no definitive knowledge of the genre, and the initial purpose was to move past the VERY surface of electronic (Tri Repeate, Untrue, etc.)
I'll most likely revise with some more obscure stuff soon, so don't you worry about that. I was just throwing some stuff out there
>>
>>60539506
There's probably less than 30 albums listening to.
