No that's one I took a liberty with, same with Lizard... I guess I feel they both sound as if they would have had a large influence on The final Talk Talk albums, but maybe s/t is closer to that sound. They're sort of precursors to Post Rock so I just thought he must like them?

It's hard to tell, the transition between Ascension Day and After the Flood is actually very similar to the end of Deceit both musically and thematically.
The Reaction was a punk band, so he has been in those circles, but I'm not too sure how into it he was. Like, I don't think he loves synthpop or anything. Punk in general seems a bit too raw and dirty for Talk Talk, they've always been clean and orderly.
Ultimately, This Heat is a bit too chaotic for me to think they were a direct influence, but I wouldn't rule out Mark digging them and recognizing their importance.

Valid points, it's really difficult to pin down one solid influence for Spirit of Eden/Laughing Stock/Mark Hollis, other than maybe In a Silent Way. Hollis' s/t actually reminds me a lot of David Sylvian's Secrets of the Beehive, but whether Hollis was influenced by it I don't know.
