Is this the first post-rock album?
Definitely Post-punk.
>>60368076
no.
>>60368076
pretty sure Pere Ubu's "The Modern Dance" came out before this
>>60368076
we all liked Johnny Rotten's vocals for the Sex Pistols, but can we stop pretending PIL was any good?
>>60369999
Nope.
No, that would be Atom Heart Mother

>>60370523

>>60368076
no
it's the idiot you dongalong
f#a#infinity is. anything before the "second" wave is proto-post-rock, thus not actually post rock
>>60370523
>>60372833
Chicago might as well be post-rock
>>60369999
Public Image Ltd. is the superior band, though.
>>60373293
So just rock?
I might say the obvious and go Spirit of Eden, I think it's the first truly legitimate Post Rock album.
The first real post-rock album is The Durutti Column - The Return of The Durutti Column, OP.
>>60373293
You should jump in front of a car if you're serious.
>>60373293
The term post-rock was coined with Hex, you fucking idiot.
The widely accepted start was with Laughing Stock and Spiderland.
>>60373358
>Implying Spirit of Eden is any less Post Rock than Laughing Stock.
>>60368076
no
>>60368076
That's not glenn branca.
>>60373375
It's honestly more prog.
>>60373358
terms change their meaning all the time. a narrowing is what happened with p-r
most pioneers dont come very close at all to the now archetypal sound of post-rock and in most cases fit another genre just as well
you could use it as an umbrella for any non-"rocking" rock that isnt prog or post-punk, that might be useful, but when most say sth is "post-rock-influenced" they mean "it has the guitar style or crescendos of EitS"
>>60373352
haha their name is a rock. their album has re in it. this is so meta damn.
>>60369999

>>60373487
Just because something gets dumbed down doesn't mean the original stuff loses its merit.
The first post rock song was Veteran's Day Poppy
Why are people suddenly calling PiL post-rock? For decades everyone has agreed that they're post-punk.
>>60374995
post-punk is a subgenre of post-rock obviously, as follows from the fact that punk is a subgenre of rock
pil were post punk
punk was post rock
prog was post rock
the only rock genre that's not post rock, is rock
any other rock genre is post rock by definition
>>60368076
RYM says that talk talk invented post rock, i don't think that's wrong.
there were definitely a lot of post rock sounding artists and albums even before talk talk they aren't even first wave, they are proto post rock.
inb4 avant math
>>60368076
the first post rock song came out in 1939

>>60375055

>>60375687
You say this but you'll probably still say that post-punk is a subgenre of punk.
>>60373386
