How do you feel about his new album? Listening to it on Netease.
>>
Album of the year IMO. So many great songs
>>
>>60347460
>>60347840
Fuck why is this place full of fucking fags
>>
As much as I still despise him for being an enormous bitch, I will admit that What Do You Mean and Sorry are solid pop songs with catchy beats. That's all the positive I can say though.
>Makes a big show about "maturing" and "finding himself"
>Continues to throw tantrums at concerts and goes stalker ex mode on what's her name
>>
>>60347912
>taking this seriously
>>
His songs....
Life is worth living
Children
Purpose

Is all about worshipping Jesus and converting kids to christianity. It's so beautiful to hear such pop music like this.
>>
fucking loved it desu senpai. bought it on vinyl. bieber really got his game together.
>>
>>60348142
I'm on song 18 and I've liked 12 songs so far which is unusual for me. I usually only like 2- 4 songs Max on an album.

Am I being fucking memed?

Holy shit this is either some new creative bait or /mu/ has really gone down in the dumps
>>
>>60348293
it was really strange, I totally didn't expect it from him. It was really emotional.
>>
Thus album is so cohesive....much better than Grimes latest...

I really hope he does more Christian pop directed towards God.
>>
I think it's a decent 6. Best Bieber albums so far tbqh, he's improved greatly smfh desu smfh senpai.
>>
>>60348354
Nah.. I usually only listen to shoegaze and indie crap. This album is 8/10.

>>

>close minded: the post
>>
>>60348511
>>60348523
I'm serious. It's really good. It actually sounds like an album with songs relating to one another. It still has some stupid songs with rappers, but there's at least 10 solid songs.
>>
My gf is a belieber and we are listening together. Super impressed so far. Its hard not to tear up in front of her with how emotional some of the songs are. :/
>>
Any favorites? I'm partial to I'll Show You
>>
I wonder if anyone has really listened to it.
>>
>>60348816
I did. It's pretty good, best pop album of the year so far. Where Are Ü Now? was especially touching, Bieber showed his musical maturity there.
>>
>>60348770
My favs are the more emotional Christian ones. 10, 12, 13, 18, 20 but there's no bad songs IMO.
>>
What about the children?
What about all the children we can change?

Who in this generation is going to be the one to fight for them?
Do you believe enough to die for them?
>>
>>60349096
So powerful, that.
>>
Album art is trash though
>>
Is this thread just ironic memes or something
>>
>>60349329
no, just people with open minds about different types of music.
>>
I'll suck your ween is the best track on album.
>>
>>60349355
if you're being serious I think you need to go back to your rym niche club and get another shtick instead of liking top 40 to seem open minded
>>
>>60349385
mmm i'll only like top 40 if it's good.
>>
I've heard that his music this time around is a little better but holy fuck this thread is hilarious
>>
>>60347460
Honestly I thought maybe Adele, Grimes, or Tame Impala were all contenders but this blows them out of the water. I'm honestly, really enjoying Purpose. Top five of the decade for sure.
>>
>>60349424
lets not get ahead of ourselves now
>>
>>60349424
idk about top 5, definitely contender for album of the year at this point though.

Album cover is lame but it actually is pretty good though

is it still teen pop?

Nas shouldn't have been on We Are. The song would sound better with Bieber by himself.
>>
>ITT: Delicious bait everywhere.

Same generic pop album that was heard in his other music productions. Tried to incorporate some pseudo EDM into his album buy fell extremely short.

Very soft 6/10, imo
>>
So far my favorites are What Do You Mean?, Company, and No Pressure. I'm on No Sense right now.

The whole thing's been a little samey sounding but the sound is nice at least.
>>
>>60347460
I actually have dug his recent singles, as far as pop songs go. They're def. a step up for him.
>>
Shame the teens are hating this masterpiece, but oh well. It doesn't have the meme songs like Baby and the likes but it's a real testification of Bieber being a serious and matured artists. Some really slick production all around, I especially like the experiments he did on his vocals, changing his pitches and blending in with the beats. It's almost like a mixture of dreampop and detroit techno, very, very intriguing.

If Grimes gets a 7 from Fantano, I'm sure this will receive a 8 or higher. This is the year of new school pop tbqh.
>>
>>60347460
Best track is Mark my Words. That track surprised me the most.
>>
>>60350840
this smfh desu senpai
>>
>>60348002
he is some form of christian

look up youtube videos of him before he was famous (youtube kidraul i think)

he did a lot of christian music.
>>
If you guys liked his Christian songs on this album, you will especially like his song Believe, released a few years ago.

Really reduces a man like myself to tears, so beautiful, so meaningful.
>>
jesus not even kidding i loved the shit out of this album
>>
>>60347460
I think it's great. Planning to write my first ever review on RYM of this one. Rarely do we ever see such a unique pop album.
>>
8/10 album, will get overshadowed by 25 though which I think isn't fair for him
>>
I was really skeptical but seeing all the praise here got me curious so i gave it a listen and im glad i did. Great album, i've had it on repeat for hours now.

Journals was a step, but do I have to ask myself if this is any good? becuase you got me
>>
>>60351536
Not even baiting. I listened to the whole thing and more or less enjoyed it. Best tracks are Company, No Pressure, and The Feeling. His singles aren't too bad either.
>>
>>60351536
not baiting either.

i honestly think this is his best album

i do wish he did more songs like Die In Your Arms though

this album reminds me of Chris Brown's album "Chris Brown" but a lot more tailored towards pop than R&B.

bieber should do more ballads.

>>
>>60352209
That's wrong though.
>>
>>60352643

name one mainstream pop artist who writes their own songs....
>>
Really boring. I was interested to see what it'd be like since What Do You Mean? and Sorry were pretty well executed pop hits, better quality and surprisingly more artistically ambitious than most other current pop hit makers (One Direction, Ariana Grande, any other boring pop chart star.) But it seems that every other song on the album is pretty lackluster although I must admit I only listened to half of them before giving up. Bieber is consistently boring as a lyricist so the only thing to go for in his music is the hooks and production, both of which were lacking in this bloated album of bland and forgettable trap and dance pop tunes.
>>
>>60353002

I like the lackluster quality of the songs. Many pop songs are over-produced and have too much noise in them to distract you from the fact they can't sing. This album was refreshing to me.
>>
i cant beliebe im saying this, but ive bought it on vinyl today
>>
>>60353019
The vocal effects on this album ruin it for me. Justin is a good singer but it's overproduced. The features on this album were pretty terrible also.
>>
>>60352084
that album is trash from what i can hear on the sample tracks on itunes
>>
Honestly up until the features it's pretty good, the Halsey one was absolute garbage. Currently on Purpose which is a pretty good worship team song at a "hip" church.
>>
Wait is this actually a Christian album?

Kek.
>>
>>60354152
In the last few years he's gotten really into Christianity, his pastor is a pretty famous one from Seattle. So there are some thinly veiled christian songs.
>>
>>60353882

thoughts on the first listen: excluding the singles, which are all fire, Mark My Words was a really nice opening, No Sense, The Feeling, Love Yourself and Children stood out to me. Honestly, Children is worth a grammy or something, I really like the idea of the song. 9'\10 pop album
>>
>>60355979

Prince isn't relevant anymore, but yes he did write and compose many of his hit songs in the 80s and early 90s.
Lady Gaga has songwriters that work on all of her songs.. Looking through her discography on Wikipedia..the only song she ever wrote alone was You and I apparently. The rest have 1-5 songwriters working on them...which is the same for every pop artist besides Grimes.
>>

I refuse to believe this thread isn't a bad attempt at irony. You don't just go from a bland teen pop star who likes pretending to be 'edgy' to a respectable artist overnight. This, or you've decided to pretend to like it in order to impress your 'hip' 'open-minded' internet friends and be a contrarian. Either way, DFW would be ashamed of you.
>>
This is viral marketing, it's being perpetuated by the same company that spammed Chvrches Every Open Eye record when it came out
>>
alright honest opinion from a non viral marketer or b8'er here. I just downloaded it and listened through its truly nothing special at all but it is a step up from his previous work. It goes in between really dancy electronic to typical top 40 piano and singing love songs with perfect crystal clear state of the art vapid production. Its honestly exactly what i expected from bieber. Im even someone who roots for him and I wanted this to be some sort of respectable artistic breakthrough but its definitely not. Its just simply better than his previous work which isnt saying a lot. Beliebers everywhere will go nuts either way though
>>
the bottom end of this record from "been you" until the last track "the most" is the most generic top 40 dance bullshit ive ever witnessed, track after track its just that generic piano/acoustic guitar dance beat type shit. God damn they were trying to make every single track on here be a radio smash, comlpletely shamelessly. Soft, tender verses leading up to big choruses on almost every track

I'm feeling a 6.9-7 on this desu. The record caters towards fans of Skrillz and Drake, and I'll take that as far as I'm concerned. For a complete rebranding, there's very few artists that I can turn around on, but this is one. Especially with the amount of vulnerability he shows on this record, down to the minimal production exposing his vocals. Sure, there's some filler, but if you're just listening to the standard version I don't see how you could ask for better in a modern Pop record with a male singer. His next record could honestly be a masterpiece if he hones in and continues to focus. .
