Still love their music though. Daisy is crazy underrated
Elliott Smith - Memory Lane
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OxgNyRRqn0
I don't even know why. It's just the delivery of the chorus that gets me.
If FABOTH wasn't already borderline fucked by his family and hack producers then I wish it had gone Kings Crossing > Memory Lane > A Distorted Reality to close it out
One time when I was in my full blown, highest point in my teenage angst, depression, fuck the world phase I listened to Edit the Sad Parts by Modest Mouse, and I legit broke down and cried like a fucking child. I was listening to it in my car and was at a stop light literally bawling, people were looking at me, and mouthing "sorry" I cringe whenever I think about it.
get to the point where you cannot cry and you will feel true sadness
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Txxz4CzvKnQ
I really don't remember why I cried over it. I just listened to it on a bad night for no particular reason, found the lyrics relatable, and broke down. I remember this being the point where I started tearing up.
>how quickly pass the days, long is the night
>lying in bed awake, bathed in starlight
>better to live as king of beasts
>than as a lamb, scared and weak
The music, those lyrics, it all just came together and hit like a train at that point.
Nude by Radiohead was probably the closest I ever came. I've only cried once in my adult life but it was not music related, it was >tfw no gf related.

Beautiful album. It's never personally brought me to tears, but I think that's just because I've never heard it in the right circumstances. I think thats a really important thing. Our visceral, emotional responses to music are fundamentally based on what's going through our heads as we hear them. Sometimes music just gets you. :/

yep, the title track off the album that somehow stays relevant despite mike love's best attempts to tarnish it. the first time I listened to it, I don't remember thinking about it at all -- I was more smitten with 'til i die' and 'don't go near the water'. Then my dad died, and I tried to drown it out with music. This song comes on again...and every beautiful part of this song comes out in full. Jesus christ, I could fill a bathtub with all the saltine tears that song made me release. great song, one i can never look at objectively.
>astral weeks by van morrison
no backstory here, I just found the song so pretty on the first listen that I teared up and shed a few tears two or three minutes in. why wasn't the rest of the album even half as good?
>age of adz by sufjan stevens
A true epic that goes all out in musical maximalism that left me feeling so overwhelmed that tears were the only appropriate response. Thankfully, the whole fucking album is great too.
I've been suffering from extreme anxiety and panic attack this last three months, my girlfriend broke out with me because of this, I was too much of a pussy to tell her that it wasn't because I had lost interest in our relationship but because I've been a fucking mess recently. This song made me cry a lot this last couple of days.
>Pardon me, I didn't realize
What's in your eyes
My arms are open wide,
But I can't even decide what I wanna do
I'm staring at the sky,
But I can't tell which way my thoughts are travelling
I'm trying to listen to your words,
But I can't feel my head and it's unravelling
Sometimes I don't longer know
What it means to care about the things you wanna do
Everybody's living or they're dead
I'm still in my bed
And I don't have a clue
I won't lie and tell you it's alright
I won't lie and tell you it's alright

For a single song, I would have to say:
>D'Angelo's "Africa"
Best way to describe my feelings was that at that point I had not heard such fluid, incredible production that at the same time managed to express such soulful, sorrowful beauty. Amazing.
Honestly, the most recent instance of me actually crying to music was while listening to an entire album. This was:
>Fennesz's Endless Summer
Essentially, a really close friend of my family had died (probably the biggest factor why I was feeling down) so I was looking for something to make me feel better in the hours that had followed. I just lied down on my bed in a deep funk and pulled that album up, which I had never listened to before. It was beautiful and really helped soothe my mind with how surprised and sad I was feeling that a guy I knew growing up had died unexpectedly.
Those are the two most honest instances that I've been reduced to emotional rubble by music. Mostly because of the context I was listening to them in, but also because of the relief that they seemed to bring to me.

Their demographic was Highschool.
Jesse Lacey's solo live shows hes done throughout the years are great. He picks the best Brand New songs to play acoustically, will tweak the lyrics, and also plays some great covers.
I think his personal opinion and taste is why the Fight Off Your Demons demos are so consistent lyrically. It was probably mostly stuff he wrote on his own without much though to tweaking it for Brand New. I mean even look at the lyrical difference between Sowing Seasons on the demos vs The Devil and God. He clearly changed the song I'm a huge way to appeal to the demographic they were aiming for.
Still love Brand New to death though.

Yes. Key Largo by Bertie Higgins. The lyrics in that one sound as if he's talking about some he knew and loved who recently died. So sad

That's not something to be proud of senpai...
Three times, but two were in the same point of my life.
Andrew Jackson jihad can't maintain and Titus andronicus the monitor back when I had severe depression and almost became an hero a couple years back.
American football never meant a couple months back because me and the woman I still love and she loved me for a while broke up for outside reasons. I still love her and hope to come back to her in a couple of years.
There's a couple dozen songs that always give me feels because I decided long ago that if I were to kill myself they would be the songs I leave behind as some sort of dumb "goodbye" Spotify playlist.
