I know these words have dwindled down a lot in useage these days but could somebody from as much of an objective place as possible just explain to me what the terms "rockist" and "poptimist" actually mean once and for all?

>"poptimist"
a person who thinks that mainstream pop should be treated as fine art
Rockism - Assumes rock is the baseline for which all popular music should be judged.
Poptimism - Asserts pop music should be judged on its own merits and that the standards of the rock idiom don't apply

>"rockist"
a person who thinks anything new is trash and only listens to classic rock/older stuffs
Poptimism is the idea that any music, regardless of how banal and derivative it is, has just as much "value" as rock music. It's the idea that the manufactured single is just as relevant as the album.
Poptimists fail in two ways: they only see the music world as containing pop and rock music. They also become just as pretentious and close minded as the "rockists" they hate by rejecting anything that isn't mainstream.
It's basically counter-counter culture for middleclass white hipsters who care what pitchfork thinks.
Poptimism was manufactured so these gullible hipsters would consume it and become the willing servants of the big record labels.
It ultimately shows that hipsters are nothing more than social parasites without a compass nor a sense of identity, to the point of even embracing values that they once opposed.

See here, a typical poptimist response. They don't have a real rebuttal so they resort to shit posts, memes and name calling.
