What You Want is the perfect sonorous analog to sex. Specifically sex on drugs. Specifically sex on ecstasy. The warping guitars and ethereal vocals emulate the simultaneously sad and beautiful feeling of being in love. Above, the dreamlike synth-thing is obviously the astral plane which we can never reach (we can never listen to it's entirety, we only get bits and pieces of what's going on in accordance to what the more immediate melodies are doing) but we can get glimpses of by achieving ecstasy (through sex). And it's the straightfoward, "hard rocking" drums that are just about violent enough to keep the whole thing earthbound and remind us that sex, in all it's beauty, is always a power struggle between two kinetic forces of excess.

I am making a call to action, let us never post this album image again for at least a few months and allow the dust to settle. too many people on this board think this is a meme and too many of you fuckers play along. posting his name in random threads and calling everyone out on being him. if youre a fan of this album, then do Kevin a favor and dont allow this shit to become a meme. most of the people who are playing along with this joke havent even listened to it. lets stop this, right now. this isnt meme-tier, its just trippy hip hop. if its like this now, imagine how bad this meme will be a year from now. plus, only mu is even aware that this shit exists. lets give him time to build a fanbase before we have a thoughtful discussion of this album because until then the entire thread will be meme praise meme hate and meme samefag calling. i rest my case.

you're a moron and clearly don't know how to listen to my bloody valentine. you're supposed to listen to the vocals/singing as if they were another instrument; to me loveless is a soundscape album and you have to take the whole album as one big line of sound you know, like ambient music or drone? ever listen to that shit?. that's what it's all about. if you don't like it, fine, but this whole post makes it clear to me that you don't know what you're talking about.

of course it's a pop album full of pop songs but the effects and reverbs and production choices are part of the experience, why would you neglect them because it's "just" a pop album?

>>60272494
i don't even consider myself a my bloody valentine fan, but loveless is fucking gateway shit. look, you don't have to like it, but it seems to me that you guys bashing loveless are focusing on the completely wrong things.

No. It's cacophonous, disjointed and is the epitome of janglecore bullshit. There is absolutely nothing perfect about it.

it's okay if that's not the kind of thing you're into, that's okay, but there's nothing inherently bad about anything here at all. do you listen to any experimental music?
>>
>>60272569
>you guys bashing loveless are focusing on the completely wrong things.
We're focusing on what we want to get out of the music. If I'm in the mood to listen to ambient or drone then I will listen to ambient or drone, not some half-assed pop tunes buried under a fuckton of reverb. It's an album that tries to be everything at once and falls at every hurdle.

I'm saying that this album is too "square" to be considered experimental. There's a lot of pop'ish albums that are much more "loose" than this. It's pure 4/4 "on-beat". The only thing that makes this album good (and by good I mean 7/10) is the wall of sound that it builds with the guitars' textures combined.

i agree with you completely. tons of people and bands out there do the whole noisy pop thing a lot better than mbv, and yea i know what you mean by "square" although i don't think it's as stiff as you think it is. you don't have to have a completely non-linear composition/sound in order to be experimental, but yeah loveless is pretty on-track.

>>
People in this thread are being stupid. Loveless is a pretty good album. If you took away all of Kevin shields' pedals, sure, the songwriting is pretty damn simple. the focus isn't the composition, it's the sound itself. The wall of distortion thing was pretty innovative, and influenced a ton of modern musicians, for better or worse. Whether or not you respond to their sound is subjective. What sounds grating to some might sound beautiful to another. That's just how music is. While I'm not gonna stand up here and say that Loveless is a really "well-written" album, it does what it sets out to do very well
