>>

Cheesy pentatonic afrobeat/smooth jazz released by Brainfeeder for mass consumption of non-jazz fan plebeians.
>>
>>55642927
isnt it a good thing that jazz is making a comeback? people who dont like jazz wont last the whole 3 hours so it does seem like pleb territory besides being involved with flyo

I actually love this album. Lyrics aren't great, but I like the beats and overall production.
>>
>>55642976
Literally the same was said about Kenny G and smooth jazz in the 80s, Back then Kenny G was just playing off of contemporary R&B/Soul/Hip-Hop sounds like these guys are doing now.

Stuff like Kamasi Washington,Robert Glasper, BBNG, Snarky Puppy is the horrible commercial smooth jazz garbage of our time.
>>
>>55642976
>isnt it a good thing that jazz is making a comeback?
Firstly, it isn't. This is one album that has become semi-popular because Flylo endorsed it.
But even if it was, why would it be a good thing? There's still been plenty of fantastic jazz albums in the past ten years or so without the genre being mainstream. In fact, this may be bad because people may start to try imitating Washington if they think it's going to get them some popularity.

unknown memory is miles better
>>
>>55643040
Derivative, soulless.
>>
>>55643070
I don't like it as much, it has too much autotune and I hate to say it but it's too "commercial"
>>
>>55643081
>it's le derivative soulless may may jazz
/mu/: the post
>>
>>55643061
by making a comeback i mean its not completely dead and there is still a chance for jazz influenced musicians to survive and be semi-succsesfull
>>55643057
you best not be talking shit about BBNG
>>
>>55642882
you like it = meme
>>
>>55643057
Black Radio isn't great sure, but what's wrong with the rest of Glasper's stuff
>>
>>55642927
>being this ignorant about what constitutes "smooth jazz"
this is definitely a real jazz album, I just am upset that people either
1. dismiss it because it's "memejazz"
2. only listen to this album and ignore other equally good jazz releases

at least it'll be an opener for many people getting into jazz
>>
>>55643345
This is pretty much what I was hoping, a gateway album for some people into the rest of modern jazz.
More people exploring and enjoying music is always a good thing.
>>
>>55643345
The definition of smooth jazz is constantly changing to adapt to the commercial music of the time.

Just like George Benson did in the late 70s, Kenny G in the 80s/90s, these "Neo Soul/ R&B/Hip Hop" influenced "jazz" artists of today are continuing the smooth jazz tradition of incorporating pop sensibilities for ease of consumption by the masses that don't typically listen to jazz.
>>
>>55643508
Could you explain to me what pop sensibilities he's incorporating here? If there are any you can detail I still think there's plenty enough experimentation to cancel that out.
>>
>>55643508
so are you saying we should just keep remaking giants steps until jazz is completely smothered out?
>>
>>55643600
Yes.
Let it die an honorable death.
>>
>>55643700
fuck you
>>
>>55643748
Ok sorry let's enjoy watching it die a drawn out humiliating death where it's completely dehumanized.

I didn't mean to offend your poptimism.
>>
>>55643803
im not saying make jazz accessible and poppy on purpose but what the fuck is wrong with mixing jazz influences with another genre of music. its called progression buddy
>>
>>55643803
how are bands like BBNG dehumanizing jazz please explain
>>
>>55643886
Oh, gotcha, I didn't know that's what it was called.

That changes everything about the motivations.
If you're not saying make it accessible by appealing to popular aesthetics and burying the jazz, then it's not happening.
But if you command it, it surely will happen. We're so lucky you're merciful and won't let this happen.
>>
>>55643916
What does a memerap group have to do with jazz? Please explain.
>>
>>55643935
lol how is a 3 hour jazz album thats getting some attention "burying jazz" you argument is invalid m8
>>55643993
so is yours
nice tries though
>>
>>55641622
Kill yourself.
>>
>>55642976
Jazz is for technically proficient bullshit artists. I thought this was like, a known thing.
>>
>>55643993
listen to bbngIII then tell me when the memerap is
>>
>>55644103
hehe i bet you listen to artists who only know how to press the play button at live shows
>>
Jazz will always survive because it's enjoyable to play, not to listen to.
>>
>>55644219
replace not with and
>>
>>55643070
Yeah if you like shitty generic beats and awful auto tune singing. He just took out the good parts of unknown death and kept all the bad parts.
