Black metal band samples the clinically insane and makes an album comprised entirely of harsh noises and anguished wailing. Not great for 2 AM listening sessions.

Hey OP
My brother studies musicology, he comes home with a lot of crazy shit. He knows I dabble in creepypasta, enjoy horror in general, and last time he came home for the holidays, he told me about this piece called "Black Angels" by George Crumb. He saw it performed in concert and said it was one of the most truly unsettling experiences of his life. All the performers were playing electric string instruments and wearing black cloaks.
I laughed and said that sounded faggy as fuck, but then he showed me the piece and I have to admit he was pretty right...

When we were listening to it on my amazing speakers he had this PTSD look on his face (we were really high but I could tell something was up) so I tried to lighten the mood by saying "Hey why don't we set this as dad's alarm clock tone lol he will piss himself"
My brother just looks at me and says, "I couldn't live with myself if I knew I had used music as a weapon." Freaked me out because he's not usually so serious... true story. Anyway enjoy.

also, if avant-garde classical music interests you, take a gander at Penderecki's "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki." It's pretty famous, it's been used in a bunch of horror films and is well known in the classical music world for popularizing the use of graphical notation. It uses all sorts of crazy shit like quarter tones and extended technique. Sorry for being giant music nerd. Read along with the score and see if you can make it through the whole thing.

Dude, my buddy is a classical guitar major and he sent me this because he knows I like weird avant garde shit and I just thought it was awesome. I don't understand how it is unsettling.

Come to think of it, I can't actually think of a piece of music that was actually unsettling to me.

I would say Geogaddi really unsettling but not outright terrifying, It's also in my top 5 albums for sure
especially when piecing together the fucked up shit BoC references, the songs start feeling like soundtracks to those events.

Jesus fuck man.
Boards of Canada has always given me vibes of awful and weird psychology stuff from the 70s.
I was watching a documentary on either Milgram or Zimbardo and BoC actually ended up in it.

They kind of talked about how a lot of bad shit thats in relatively recent times influenced the album in an interview, they admitted to 9/11 happening as it was in creation had an effect on it. It's basically a reflection of the fucked up shit people do in audio form.
