I'd avoid saying it as it makes you look like one of those clueless people who doesn't know their genres, but I'd say that like IDM it's probably a genre itself just badly defined and misused. I'd call stuff like Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, MSTRKRFT, Ratatat etc. electronica.

I don't know. It's connected to Nu-Jazz, so I guesssss it's the best fit, it's just I wouldn't associate the happy, lively, jazz dance music to something as calm and understated as "Downtempo".

I have downtempo, nu jazz, acid jazz and broken beat under ''groove'' in my library, genres are shitty really, I just lump stuff together with a similar vibe.

Choice of electronic music correlates with personality. Downtempo fans are usually more introverted and contemplative, whereas hardcore, techno, hi-NRG appeals to extroverts who seek high stimulation from music.
