Agreed. Amazing album. Basically essential in any DJ toolkit.

It's generic pop music. I really don't understand how fedoras love this album but then talk about how terrible pop music these days is when it's pretty much the same thing. Catchy melody, simple rhythm, no demands are made on the listener. It's just another product in the asasembly line of the music business.
>>
>>54478137
The word fedoras has literally lost all meaning.
>>
>>54478137
It's not a fedora album really, and also it has pop elements, but it doesn't take away from it. It actually help it form its own sound.

I can't take it seriously at all since it's been so overplayed everywhere

Nice ass-fact, just b/c your 16 yo friends just found out about it doesn't mean it still gets playtime. People have moved onto ram and yes cross is a better album.

Dadt Punk is such well known because they can emulate actual trends well, not because they are best. Face facts, you say so, because only dance act you know is Discovery

Discovery is a staple in DJ culture all around the globe. That's not even up for debate. The impact that album had was colossal.

Blog-house internet hype shit like cross sounds dated and ear-fatiguing. If you want good blog house, listen to digitalism but Justice is just embarrassing. All show, absolutely no substance.

Pic related did everything Cross did much better and much more nuanced, without being obnoxious about it.

The best introduction to house is Luomo, Sprinkles or Moodymann.

The subgenre of electro/French house should be ignored at all costs
>>
>>54479702
There's no need to be shit-talking Cross just to justify your love of Discovery. If you can't justify the album without belittling other albums then you probably shouldn't be talking about music at all.

I wasn't denying the impact or influence of it, but I think heavy rotation around the world is a bit of a stretch. Then again I don't go to dj parties around the world so I can't really say. Never listened to that album but I'll give it a shot later

>>
>>54479907
>The acronym "EDM" was adopted by the U.S. music industry and music press as a buzzword to describe the increasingly commercial American electronic music scene that developed in the 2000s.

Daft Punk started what Joel, Sonny and Co continued.
>>
Any chance Alive 2017 will surpass Alive 2007?
>>
>>54479814

You can't even compare Discovery to anything that has come out in mainstream house. The unorthodox and out there approach Daft Punk took with Discovery paid off. Contemporary critics were confused by it but nowadays the album is hailed as a classic. It doesn't sound dated one bit and to say that about a house album is one hell of an accomplishment.
>>
>>54479846
It doesn't have to be albums, just the culture in general. Pretty much we all know that in early 2010s they're many 80s stuff that been revived, like Drive.

So the 80s revival, and Daft Punk made an 80s - 70s disco album. I wonder what connection it had.

>>54479987
as if /mu/ would know the first thing about disco

it's not released in the form of concept albums, so fuck that, its irrelevant i guess
>>
>>54479766
Not true actually, if that was the case tons of shitty pop tunes from the early 2000's would be playing. Discovery is an album that will live on for ages and will not be forgotten. While I like Cross, it's also not inaccessible either and won't live on, the same way RAM won't (while I do like that album).

Also. Pleb =/= Bad. Something can still be accessible but good. If you convince yourself otherwise you're almost as bad as the people who won't give anything out of the top 40 a try.
>>
>>54479987
I said 80s culture you daft punk. They obviously tried to cash in the 80s shit because it was in back then.

They hire Neil Fucking Rodger.

>>
>>54477984
It's boring and repetitive and there's not a single interesting thing about it. I've tried many times to enjoy Daft Punk, but I just can't because listening to it makes life dull. The beats are completely lacking in complexity and completely fail to engage me. It doesn't help that they're repeated ad nauseum for the entire duration of the track with little to no variation. I've never understood why people praise Daft Punk so much over their contemporaries like SebastiAn, who are obviously much more talented and creative.
