It's just a genre. Most genres of Indian Classical music feature vocalists, it's actually kind of weird that it's more well-known for its instrumentalists outside of India since within India even instrumental Classical music is mostly evaluated on how well it approximates vocals.

Yeah, I do understand that, but Khyal from my understanding has a heavier emphasis on vocals than instrumentation, where most Indian Classical has the vocals being led by the instrumentation, Khyal is the other way around, allowing vocal improvisations to guide the corresponding music, no?

Khyal does have a heavier emphasis on improvisation, but I wouldn't really characterise other genres as being led by the instrumentation. Vocalists always trump accompanists, even if they're singing more precisely-defined compositions.

Tizita, being Amharic for ‘nostalgia, memory and longing’, represents a kind of soulful melancholy music from Ethiopia and Eritrea. This album shows female Tizita with excellent hooks and a strong dose of passion. One of my favorites from Ethiopia’s ‘Golden Age of Music’ which mostly took place during the 1970s.
