Gr8 choice. Speak no Evil was my fave of last year.
Tough choice. Tatum always gets me going + this is strong the whole way through (I have the cute 10" LP) so I picked it. Also considered Paul Quinichette, Art Pepper, and Hancock's Maiden Voyage.

Even after I've been digging more into jazz, it still sounds so messy to me. Is there something else to it or is that just how it sounds?

In that case, definitely check out Moanin'. Also Tony Williams "Emergency" and maybe some Gene Krupa if you're down for older (pre bop) jazz.
You can't beat a double quartet
One of these two. I always switch back and forth between which one is my top favorite. Right now it's The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady.
