Prog thats not cheesy rec thread

Checked out rush and it sounded really dated and cheesy
Yes was the same story
As much as i like tool, theire lyrics are cringey as fuck
Dream theatres alright i guess
Porcupine tree is pretty good
Isis is great
I dont dig the feel of king crimson

I just need some really complex prog that has cool time signiatures and complex rythms etc but doesnt sound like dated pop or death metal

King Crimson is a band that changed sound a lot, m8. You listened to Larks or Red?
>>
I dont see how you think yes and rush are cheesy but try Opeth

OP your cheese meter done broke on ya

So, you want Tool worship?

Karnivool
Smallman
Rishloo

Oceansize are the best for time signatures since they're severely autistic and can't play in 4/4 because of "muh prog cred"

Also check out Votum, Blindead and Aoria, but that's more PT than Tool

Also Chaos Divine if you like triplets and duplets

try intronaut, prog metal+jazz interludes+nice time signatures. their early stuff is heavier, and the last 2 albums have some cleaner vocals, more melodies. definately recommended if you like ISIS.
Void and Habitual Levitations are great albums

if you like ISIS you would like intronaut

>>51804229
Prog is so cheesy and you've listened to so much of it you can't tell what cheese is anymore.
>>
>>51807485
nice choices, love the build-up in syndic calls

dulcinea is my favourite, especially the second half, then links into over root and thorn

so did we ending sends chills down my spine, great start to panopticon

Who do you guys consider the best vocalist in prog? I love PT, but Steven Wilson is quite weak vocalist, I'd go with Devin Townsend because of his range or Peter Gabriel
>>
>>51807476
Listen to some power metal then

>Listen to some power metal then
This is literally the worst advice anyone can ever give

>>51807777
I actually fucking adore Wilson's voice, and although Devin is diverse, a lot of his vocal styles annoy me.

Einar Solberg is the best vocalist in the world so he wins. Also Akerfeldt is pretty amazing.
>>
>>51807862
>power metal
>bad advice
>ever

Once you've heard power metal nothing will ever sound cheesy again.
>>
>>51807862
Wilson is good, but he often sounds way too monotonous, Mariusz Duda is much better and varied vocalist in my opinion. Hell Matt Bellamy is better singer than him.
Solberg and Ã…kerfeldt are also great vocalists although it took me long time to get used to growling vocals.
>>
>>51807966
I guess but it will also make you feel nauseous

>>51808054
I still don't really like growled vocals, I'm mostly complimenting them on their cleans. And Einar has like 15 vocal styles
